My HUD goes out when the headlights come on.
Two prior Z06's were not like this. Says nothing in the manual about this either.
Is it just me that has this problem or is this evidence of **** poor engineering?
It's an '08 coupe.
Thanks for any info.

This isn't normal. Have you tried adjusting the brightness?

I don't think its bad engineering but it could be bad assembly. Maybe the connector is not fully seated. In any case take it to the dealer and get them to fix it.
Does anyone else drive your vehicle? The reason I ask is that if you have memory, the hud brightness is a retained setting with the memory settings. If someone else drove your car and dimmed the HUD with the lights on, the vehicle memory could be simply recalling that setting.

I've noticed that the display dims a little when the headlights come on. Maybe your brightness setting is too low during the day, and when the lights come on at night it dims to the point it dissapears. Try setting it to the brightest level during the day. I'm most likely wrong, but doesnt hurt to try!
WOW--talk about quick responses. Thanks.
However, now I sit here with mixed feelings. Glad that this is not the way it is supposed to be but on the other hand bummed out that a dealer must solve the problem....why do I feel huge headaches coming on!
I've done the brightness bit; nobody else has driven the car. I can start the car in the garage and the headlights come on; back out into the light and as soon as the headlights go off, the HUD comes on.
Also sat in the garage, started the car, headlights on, HUD off. If I turn the headlights off manually in the garage, HUD comes on right away.
Any other recommendations appreciated before I take it in.

Still sounds like something to do with daytime nighttime sensing. Is it in the AUTO mod that you are seeing this problem??

I found this in the manual:
The brightness of the HUD image is determined
by the light conditions in the direction the
vehicle is facing and where you have the HUD
dimmer control set. If you are facing a dark
object or a heavily shaded area, your HUD may
anticipate that you are entering a dark area and
may begin to dim.
