I'm glad you were able to come out of this okay, and while I agree this other driver was a complete moron, I don't usually flip off ladies simply because I wasn't raised that way. My $.02

This kind of thing happens to me. I have learned to accept someone else's human tendancies and not take it personal just because I drive a corvette.

What if you had made that same error?

the problem with society is that it IS lightening up too much. People are idiots, and you should not just lighten up on them, then they will continue to be idiots. she COULD have not seen him because of the blind spot, but that is why they teach you to check your blind spots when you drive. you should not just keep lightening up and letting people be idiots because they have "human tendencies" it is just stupidity on their part, not the world being too harsh.

abs also stops the wheels from locking up and increasing the stopping distance, so it does matter. no slide, quick stop.

I would have hunted her down and given her 4 flats to prevent the idiot from driving anymore that day!

Last summer a lady pulled out in front of me with her cell phone in one hand and an ice cream cone in the other. WTF? SHE then proceeded to enter the freeway and merged into three lanes of traffic with no regard to the others in the lanes. Brakes lights were everywhere as she did her thing. Damned I wished I was a LEO at the time.

I much prefer social work to be performed in an office by one with a degree- on the other hand I like when a licensed driver is attentive, careful, and follows the rules of the road. Get real or continue on in la la land but why ask others to go with you?

Did you bother to read what I wrote and for that matter did you bother to read what YOU wrote?

ABS does not make you stop in a shorter distance! It only helps you to keep control WHEN TRACTION IS AT A MINIMUM.

You wrote "ABS also stops the wheels from locking up AND INCREASING THE STOPPING DISTANCE". Your right! Then you wrote "so it does matter, no slide, QUICK STOP" WRONG!!

We all need to be defensive drivers, all the time.

Hell, we've all pulled some real boners on the road.

I am quite certain defensive driving has kept me alive for 40 years now with nothing more than parking lot mishaps. As a matter of fact, I have taken Defensive Driving classes for 30 years now for the 10% insurance discounts. I am a moderately aggressive driver at times but I am always watching for the other guy to make sure I can escape his sudden moves and mistakes. More times than not when I see a driver mistake, I see that driver with a cell phone in his hand. We just lost a constable LEO on the tollway a few days ago by an inattentive driver alleged to be distracted by his cell phone as he hit the LEO standing on the outside shoulder. There is a lot of reaction to this accident and another effort is materializing to ban cell phone use while driving in the legislature next spring. It would suit me just fine if that happened.

As years go by, I have noticed alot more cars then say 5-10 years ago. Most accidents are caused by CELL PHONES! What do people talk on their cell phones while driving? Hang Up the F--king PHONE! Concentrate on driving, some people need to go back to driving school 101.

Cell phones present some additional risk but so do eating 4 course meals, putting makeup, reading the paper, looking for CD's, combing hair and the list is endless. I lost a fellow officer a few years ago to a 18 year old girl putting on make up! He was more than 6 ft off the road yet she still manged to hit and kill him. When driving thats what people should be doing.. DRIVING! You have people that can't walk and chew gum yet think they can perform countless activities that distract from driving. How many people will even admit they are lousy drivers? In fact most people are rather poor drivers and do little or nothing to improve driving skills. It's not something you acquire through divine intervention but rather from proper training. We've made great strides in getting drunks off the roads but little or nothing to improve driving skills. Most serious accidents are a combination of inattention and improper speed for road conditions. How many have seen idiots in SUV's doing 75 mph on snow packed highways? I've issued citations for speeding when it was raining like a cow pizzing on a flat rock! Women are some of the worst offenders when driving large SUV type vehicles. I believe they feel all powerful sitting up high and many drive extremely aggressive. The fact is without paying constant attention and anticipating other vehicles you are an accident waiting to happen. Drive safe my corvette brothers.......

I've had lots of close calls in the past 7 years driving C5s and C6s. Sometimes they can be hard to see, apparently, especially if the other driver is in a huge SUV or pickup. But I've found in the REAL close ones I never have time to lean on the horn... If I have time, and the presence of mind, to sound the horn, chances are it is not a situation that the Vette can't handle quite easily.

I'm glad you avoided having a accident and welcome to the club pal! People never see Corvettes and motorcycles and when they do, they ignore them Even though my vette is "yellow", many never see me coming and pull out in front of me!

All it takes in CA (actually, I could "say" the USA) to get a license is to be alive, and I'm not certain about that. You don't actually have to know how to drive, be a tax-paying citizen (who pays for the darned roads), or own a motor vehicle. We're far more worried about the proper distance prior to a turn to give your signal than actually executing the turn.

Glad you're OK.

I agree wholeheartedly with cthusker. Here on the west coast, I drive a minimum of 120 miles a day and all of that is freeways. I've been driving to work that way for the past 23 years and I've seen just about everything. People not paying attention, reading books, of course the cell phones, women putting on makeup, general reckless driving and lets certainly not forget the guys racing each other in their imported cars!
You have to watch our for yourself and the term "defensive driving" is just that. Road-rage here can get you killed but not for thinking that someone is going to blow you away, its from everyone else reacting around you. There are so many cars, you really must pay very close attention. Generally speaking only, I see about %50 of the drivers here either don't care how they drive or they don't know how to drive.
