Default pull the trigger or walk away

I am looking at a 06 3LT automatic car is fully loaded with on star, nav, select ride ect... Original owner selling it. He has the window sticker and all documents. It has 18500 miles, some scratches where the front licence plate goes. He has a front plate on and the brakets made the scratches. I don't think I will put one on. Its black/black. The owner adimtts to 1 accident when the car was 5 days old he was rear ended, you cant tell by looking at it. He is asking 40K, I was giong to offer 33/34 is that too high considering the miles and accident?
G1YY26U465109759 looking for some feedback

This was two weeks ago. Today I recieved a call from the owner telling me he is going to trade it in for a Mercedes SUV and was offered $33,500. He will sell it to me at that price. I am going to bring it to the Chevy dealer for a once over to see if it has any issues. I think its a very good deal. I am looking for the down side, what do you guys think?

Of course you have to wonder why he is really selling it! I would want to test drive that for at least an hour to make sure it is fully aligned etc. , after an impact like that. Make sure there is nothing that was done that would make someone get fed up enough to sell it. And don't trust what someone tells you is the reason for the sell. But sounds like a good deal.

that's a good price. but pay the dealership techs to go over the car thoroughly, especially since it's been in an accident. could be all a-ok, or not. you don't want the "or not".

Not necessarily, most dealers will offer to do a courtesy trade. The seller can still deduct the sales tax and the dealer gets to make a few bucks for paperwork.

However, if it were me selling, I'd still want a small a profit from a stranger. Otherwise, I'd just as soon trade it in and never look back, never be hassled etc. Family & friends can have my used cars for wholesale, everyone else can go to the dealerships if they don't like my price.

I believe the seller is making a huge mistake...but that's not your problem. Buy, Buy, Buy...and never look back. Helluva deal if everything is mechanically sound. Good Luck.

Here is a service history on the vehicle. On the surface it does not seem all that bad. However it appears to have been towed three times within 3 days.. right after the battery was replaced.... BUT there is no explination as to why. The warranty expires 3/6/09 or 36K miles, so there is time to fix other issues. I would inquire about the towing though.

I'd suggest that you try and find someone locally that's proficient with Corvettes and can conduct a thorough inspection to insure the car was repaired properly and doesn't have an lingering gremlins.

Otherwise, on the surface it sounds like a fair deal - - just my .02

I'm in the minority here. I'd be very suspect of this guy and his car.

#1 - Accident - you need to have this car completely checked out for any remaining issues due to the accident.

#2 - Mileage - I know too many people in the NY/NJ/CT/PA area who have their mileage rolled back. While doubtful due to the miles on this car and the year, it's still possible and should be checked out carefully.

#3 - Other issues - the car was recently towed three times in 6 days. Why?!

#4 - Trade in vs. sale -why on earth would he sell it to you if the dealer will give him the same $$$? I'm thinking on this one. Offer him $2,000 less and see how quickly he takes your offer instead of trading it in to the dealer. There's a reason he will sell it to you instead of trading it in - the dealer either won't take the car at any reasonable price of he'll get less than what he's telling you.

Personally I wouldn't pull the trigger or walk away. I'd run!

I am not so certain I would run. I might tread lightly . I agree with you about checking the damage. I also agree with you calling for not trading it. But if those things check out and the fact that it is still under factory warranty, 33,500 is a damn good buy.

I would like to be able to trade llike that. I just took my 06 Vert to Jon Hall Chev in Daytona with 10,000 miles, EVERY OPTION except. Nav, including polished wheels and wanted to trade for an 08 and they said my trade value was 38,000, not beat and no damage and they wanted 66,625.00 for theirs without f55 option. I guess when you get my age they think you are drooling and ****ting your pants and don't know what is happening. I am 70yrs. old and trade about every 2 yrs. Might hold off for 09

It has had two differentials replaced and lots of wiring and no start problems. Hopefully they are all fixed, but you still have warranty and for that price can extend it with a GMPP from Dennis.
Check the tires closely, you can spend 1600 very quickly on tires.
I would have it inspected and grab it up. Great buy.
