I planned to take my c6 with run flat tires on a long trip. With 2 passangers and luggage, total weight could be as much as 450 lbs. I noticed the load limit for my tires is 388 lbs and the owner's manual specifies a load limit of 400 lbs for the car. Would this weitght be dangerous for normal highway driving? Has anyone heard of crashes or car damage caused by carrying excess weight of 50-100 lbs.?
Look at your tires again. That weight you quoted is in Kg. My tires also say 1233 lbs. 1233 X 4 = 4932 lbs.
The plaque on the door jamb says 423 lbs. The owners manual just used 400 lbs as an example. It says to use whatever's on the plaque. 450 lbs is only 27 lbs over. Probably be okay.
Don't worry, the car won't explode, that's for the movies.
I had one time some 500 lbs in the trunk and the car did not break down.
Many small sport cars have a load limit well below 400 lbs. Just enough for 2 small people and an empty golf bag. Some manufacturer just increased the limit because people complained about it.
The sticker on the inside of my driver side door reads "total weight of occupants and cargo should never exceed 176kg or 388 Lbs."
I can't believe the car is that fragile
