I'm thinking of installing a skip shift eliminator so the manual transmission won't go from 1st to 4th under certain conditions. I wonder if GM will claim this device has any effect on the car warranty. Has anyone had any experience with or information about warranty work with one of these devices installed? Thanks for your comments.
I had one on my C5 and now have one on my C6. This is probably the most common C5 and C6 mod. There are literally thousands of members here who have them. I have never heard of a warranty denial due to the CAGS eliminator.
Install and enjoy giving the bird to that 1-4 light when it appears on your dash
The day I bought the car it was the dealer who told me where to buy one. I ordered it the first week. The purpose of CAGS was to avoid the gas guzzler tax I believe. Nothing else.
Goatts is exactly right.
put it in and don't think about it further.
it takes 2 minutes to install, 1 minute to remove any time you want to, so if you really were concerned about a warranty issue sometime later, just pull it out before you take her to the dealer (but I would never bother doing this).
Thanks for the information. Bugman, your website in particular is very helpful. I've looked at it regarding several topics. Thanks for putting up such a great website.
Due to my fairly recent S/C addition, I'm seriously considering selling my CAGS eliminator (& my K&N panel filters as well) in C6 Parts F/S section (I have access to a lift so removal is a snap).
My DiabloSport ProCharger PC (U)7194 tune turns it off at the ECM level, making CAGS disconnect weatherpack/resistor redundant.
3,500 miles Mid America version with instructions. $10 + shipping.
Twin (2) K&N Panel filters $50 (2,500 miles) with original boxes.
UPDATE: All items sold, fast.

Reason: Sold items referenced in F/S section
I had the eliminator on my C5, but I do not plan to do so on my C6. Once you get to know the car and drive it in a reasonably spirited way, it is simply not an issue.
I ordered one from Mid America Motorworks for $20 and put it on this afternoon. It works great. The 1-4 lite still comes on, but you are not blocked from going into 2nd gear. I drove around today intentionally shifting into 2nd gear whenever the 1-4 lite came one. It really is nice not having to rev the engine higher than I want or to have a little thought in the back of my mind that my shift into 2nd is not going to work.
I agree completely. Get the Diablo sport! No need to crawl under the car, no worry about the dealer stating that you altered the car and you get more performance, gas mileage and fun out of your vette! Takes 2 minutes to install the tune and two minutes to take out the tune before taking the car in for service. Also, if you plan to mod your car (if you say no...trust me, you will) you can use the predator to tune your car to the mods such as exhaust etc. Visit the Scan and Tune section for more info. Best purchase yet and no more CAGS (Computer assisted gear selector).

I had it done on two cars now and the dealer has never mentioned any problem when I had them in for warranty work.
Just pull fuse #10 under the hood in the fuse box. The only thing it does is supply power to the skip shift module. I've had mine out for a year now. Good for all vettes 05-07. Don't know about the 08's as I haven't seen the electrical diagrams on these yet

Check out the electrical diagram.

No CEL? Good luck for you. Other's reported a CEL or code. The skip shift eliminator is the safest way to go.
I wouldn't pull that fuse to avoid a CEL or other error code being thrown.
However I think tuning out skipshift in the ECM is the safest way to go, the skipshift eliminator is the cheapest.
However, Im not sure if you get an actual SES light on the dash, or just a silent trouble code logged in the PCM by pulling the fuse. Since CAGS is mileage and emissions related, I would think it would be SES, but maybe I'm wrong. Never tried it, always went CAGS and now Diablosport Predator tune.
For those who have never tried the tuning, even if you don't install the aftermarket tune, the Predator allows allot of data logging/viewing, diagnostics etc. (which those alone can be worth the price IMHO), including just disabling CAGS with the factory tune if one wanted to go that way. I picked up a Predator U7194 for ~ $200 once upon a time online, but now have the ProCharger PC7194 version for my S/C beta test. A nice piece (the instructions with the tool are a little weak, but the Diablosport forum http://www.diablosport.com makes up for that information vacuum in spades, thanks to Mike L. and others there).

Some of the cheap CAGS eliminators had a resistor out of spec which can turn on the Check Engine lamp. Other than something like that, there is no negative affect on the vehicle, so the warranty is not affected.
