Default d@%# Gas Door!!

Anyone have prolems with their Gas Door opening?

I have pushed the release button many times and even tried lightly pulling on the door while pushing the release button and the darn thing just won't open, Last time, I even tried pulling the manual cable and it still wouldn't open!

Any ideas on the cause and is there a fix??!!

Do you hear the actuator when you hit the button.
Does the door move freely, line up correctly when its open..

Appears that the catch is hung/stuck. When you get it open, lube it with WD40.

Yes and it retracts completely when I finally get it open. While trying to get it open, the door moves as the plunger moves. I pull very hard on the manual cable and it would be hard to believe that it wouldn't release.

I'll give it a try but once it is open, it will open once closed as many times as I care to try. It's only after awhile that it won't open.

It's almost like the door warps a bit and catches on the nut that holds the plunger assembly but I can't verify that for sure.

I used to not be able to close the gas lid due to the actuator being suck in the withdrawn position, but did learn that a good way to get it unstuck is to open the hatch and close it firmly. This might be of assistance to you since you don't have access to the actuator when the door's stuck shut.

I had the same thing happen to me and I checked the emergency cable in the rear hatch and found the cable was pulled out of the holder. Simply push it back and watch the plunger set all the way back where it latches all the way.

Quickest fix is a crow bar.

I had this problem once. Turned out the cap tether was holding the door shut. The fix was the way the cap tether is positioned when closing the door. If I put it in the lower left corner when closing the door, it always opens the next time. Problem has never repeated.

Sorry I can't help with the "Stuck shut" door however I had the "door won't stay shut" syndrone. After being told by Mr. Goodwrench there wasn't anything wrong (still wouldn't close) he finally agreed to replace the actuator and all has been well.

Good luck!

Stuck open is the more common issue. I found my problem was grime and dirt was in the plunger. Grease or oil is the wrong approach, I cleand it out with some engine cleaner (protecting the painted areas) and it worked perfectly since

If it were catching on something it would leave rub marks on paint of the door. The tether idea seems plausable or the manual cable release not working properly.

Checked foe that @ the station after about 5 minutes of frustrated effort when it finally decided to open and saw nothing so I thought then and even more know that it was the tether also. Must investigate this more.

Have you tried having someone push the door in, while you are pushing the release button, and taking pressure off the door the second they hear the "click' inside the door?

Okay guys, I got stuck at the gas station today. I couldn't get the fuel door to open but I did hear the click. Went to truck and pulled the manual release which promptly pulled completely out in my hand. It was not connected. How do I get this back in the holder and working again in case I run into this problem again? Car is C5 convertible. Any help woud be appreciated.

Your going to have to remove the tire and then remove the wheel liner to get access from the inside of the door.
