Default Rear hatch key lock does not work

I have a 2008 vette and got a question. I pulled out the key from the bottom of my key FOB to try and open the rear hatch. The key turns but the latch doesnot open. The key does lock the glove box. I then tried my second key FOB and the same thing. I checked the locking mecanism by pulling back the carpet and the cable latch is hooked into
the proper slot. Any ideas what the problem could be?
Thanks!!!!!

We just discovered in another thread that for the manual tranny cars, the emergency brake has to be engaged before you can unlock the rear hatch. Which tranny does your car have?

EDIT: I did just reread the owner's manual and that's only when the car is running that the e-brake has to be engaged. If the car is not running, you should be able to unlock it anytime.

Not quite. This is what the manual says:

For manual transmission vehicles, the parking brake must be
set when the ignition is started for the hatch/trunk
release to operate. The parking brake does
not need to be set when the ignition is off for the
hatch/trunk release to operate. See Parking
Brake on page 103.

Hey folks: time to read the manual.

Sounds like the parking brake needs to be set for the dash-mounted button to work but not for the key to work.

Some 07 models had installation problems with the lock tumblers in the hatch. Probably same with 08 models. Might be a good idea if everyone would check to make sure their keys work before it actually becomes necessary.

Default Unlock rear hatch

Good news!!! The key FOB opened the rear hatch. The reason why
it did not work at first was because I had the FOB in my pocket.
I put the FOB in another room and locked the car. Tried the key from the FOB and it opened up the hatch and the horn alarm went off.
I think it is working now.

Thanks!!!!
