I have a '05 C6 and about a week ago I start losing XM signal. It started out acting as if I was in a heavily tree covered area. Next, it progressed to not having signal for hours at a time. Now it's gone for good no matter what the view to the sky is. I've contacted XM and they say I'm activated, and they say it's my equipment, not their broadcast.

Anyone else ever had this problem?
From your description, it could be something as simple as a loose antenna connector. First thing I'd do is put my hands on the XM box and check the antenna connector.
I recently bought my 07 coupe and decited not to pay for the XM. There are numerous spots around my area where the signal would fade or completly go away. My standard radio is fine.
Why pay for bad reception?
My 08 does very well.. even thru the mountains on the way home... only had drop-outs when the canyon walls were high on both sides...
The other day I got in the car to set something... I turned the ACC on and the XM started playing just fine..
This was in the garage with the doors closed ?

Did not like the XM sound at all, too compressed. I live in the mountains and the fade out was crazy. In one second out another.
Fixed that, did not renew after the freebee 3 months. The regular FM appears to hold signal better and the sound (for a crappy Bose system) is much better. XM called a couple times and I told them that.
i have factory XM in my C6, CTS and avalanche. the C6 is by far the best reception. CTS is second. my XM works great, even IN THE GARAGE.
Funny you should say that, it worked good in the garage. Get it on the road and the signal was in and out. Between the mountains and the trees I was missing a lot. The FM works better. FWIW most times the radio is off anyway if I have company ridding along.
I have XM in my Honda Pilot and the new C6 - have to say the Honda is much better as it doesnt lose the signal every 30secs - extremely frustrating to say the least - anyone got any ideas?
Most metro areas have ground repeaters (900 nationwide) so a correctly operating reciever should not experience drops. In the mountains, yer gonna get drops, especally with obstructions on your south side. To the o.p., I'd have your xm box replaced, they do go bad, had a couple go bad myself.
We have a 2007 C6 and have had problems with the XM reception from day one. Every time the car is washed or driven in a heavy rain, the XM reception is lost for 4-5 days at a time. Somehow the antenna, which is in both outside mirrors, gets moisture in it and causes loss of reception. The dealer hooked the radio up to an external antenna and everything worked fine. They are going to replace both outside mirrors. I hope this fixes the problem but I have my doubts.

I've had xm reception half way through a tunnel, yet I've
also had it cut out under a bridge, go figure. Going to work
at one point no reception, on the other side of the road on the

Yes, mine sucks. No way will I continue with it when the complimentary time is over. It keeps skipping in and out. Terrible reception.

I had the same problem--a new XM antenna fixed it.
XM sucks. I have company car with xm and it loses the signal all the time. There are a lot of trees and mountains in Oregon so I would not recommend xm here.
The signal is indeed compressed and the audio that you hear was decompressed after it was received therefore when you pass under a bridge or go through a tunnel, you may very well receive the broadcast for a few additional seconds even though technically the signal was lost. For the most part, the signal is bring broadcast from a satellite(s) on-orbit 23,300 miles up, over the central US. We're talking "Line of Sight" communication. Anything gets in the way such as mountains, too many trees, thunderstorms, tunnels and etc...the comm will fail. But considering that this technology wasn't even dreamed up till the early 1990's, I'd say we're doing pretty good. Three spacecraft were built and launched, a fourth was built as a ground spare...how do I know this??? I worked on all of them personally.
