Default The Wave -

Is there and ettiquette for this? (written or unwritten?)

If there is a passenger in the car, wave?
Does the passenger have to wave?
8 yr old sons (one at a time) do they have to wave?

If you have a MN6 and can't (Am I chastised if not waving?)

I know.....
Just some questions for thought?

I am sure more questions but just a few I have.

Burn me, Flame me, Whatever, .....

If anyone wants to save the wave.... One should know.

Don't think about it...just wave. Your passenger can wave too.

Word of advise to anyone on a two lane road: don't be sniffing the tailpipe in front of you - you may not get a wave if I don't see you behind that mini-van.

Funny this should get so much attention. Back in the 60's, every Vette I passed waved. Now it's about one in 10. No big deal; I didn't buy the car to make friends.

On my third Corvette, I've noticed a more rapid decline of the "wave" here in Snottsdale, AZ (yes, I intended that spelling...) vs. the motorcycle wave. I ride Harley's, but generally the majority of fellow motorcycle enthusiasts will wave. Even the crotch-rocket sport bike set. Noticed the same thing recently in So. CA where sport bikes/crotch rockets seem to outnumber Harley's two to one. 99% waved.

But in the past year my Corvette wave % in Snottsdale is in the 50's.

Oh well, I just keep

The only rules for waiving that I'm aware of are:

Perform the wave for all Corvettes whenever possible.

Any type of wave is acceptable as long as more than one finger is used although a single thumb is considered acceptable by most.

To much thought, worry and stress goin' into this.

Half the time the other Vette going in the opposite direction has already passed before I noticed him, unless it's on an open highway. If I see him in time, I wave, if not, no biggie.

I just stick my arm out and wave like a chicken with its head cut off if my windows are down. Half the time the other Vette driver is not looking my way.

Doesn't matter who does the wave - just be sure to do it.

I try to wave to all vettes and get about an 8 in 10 response. I do miss some if I am distracted or have the need to pay particular attention to traffic in my lane.

I wave whenever I see one. I get 9 out of 10 around here.

Only one that wasn't right....

Right after we purchased our 05, we went on a short road trip to the beach. I saw an awesome 58 vert, and waved to the guy. He looked over and gave me the finger. I was ; I just couldn't help but laugh at him. I still think that's funny.

Maybe that guy wanted a 05 like yours, or was in a bad mood.

I would never give the bird to another Vette driver!

I dont either, but there is an attitude thing with some people. Just look around the C1-5 forums here on CF and you can spot it. One guy's avatar in C3 reads:

"C6 So easy a Caveman could buy one". He has one of those Caveman pictures too. that's priceless.

I've always wanted a 72 LT1. The first time I ever saw a vette it was a 72. My cousin bought a new 73, and that was the first time I ever rode in one, and I remember the wave from back then. I dreamed of owning a Vette for 33 years until I got the 05, and I'm on my second C6 now.

I'll eventually get a C3 (I hope), and I'll work on it just like I have worked on all the cars I've had over the years. The price of entry is going up every year though. I hope I can get a project car one of these days.

Anyway I don't think this guy was in a bad mood, and it wasn't that he wanted a C6 either ... If I had been in that 72 C3, I'd still probably have received the finger from him. No big deal; There are all kinds.

Save the wave
