I've been looking at ordering a 2008 Z06 with the leather wrapped interior option (3LZ.) I was told that there is a "constraint" on that option at the present time. Anyone heard anything about the issue? If it's a temporary supply problem, I'm not concerned but I'm wondering if they hit some more troublesome snag that could be an ongoing problem.
Thanks for the quick response.

Reason: Answered my question.
I've heard here that it is at best delayed or severely limited and at worst not going to be offered at all in 2008. I doubt the second is true as there are some at the dealers, just not very many. Do a search on constraints and you may learn more...

The 4LT/3LZ is currently on constraint. The original vendor that was picked by GM was unable to uphold their contract with GM for supply of the Linen and Sienna interiors and after three false starts has been replaced. There is a new supplier that has been selected and is currently ironing out supply and delivery issues in order to get up to speed. The constraint is a "no time limit defined" constraint and will be removed when the supply pipeline is full. There are several 2008 cars out there currently from the first supplier but the cars will be very limited until the new supplier can get up to speed. As I understand it no new orders will be accepted with the 3LZ/4LT interior option during this time. Current orders will be filled on an as available basis.
There are currently 23 3LZ Z06 cars on various dealer lots. That's out of 738 total Z06 cars on the lot. Not very many.
There are currently 53 4LT cars on the lot out of 2912 Coupes and Convertibles.
In other words, about 2% of the available cars.
I agree with everything that has been said about the constraint. I'm torn about whether I hope they remove it soon (it is a beautiful interior) or a great hope that they discontinue the 4LT/3LZ completely.
You see I have a Black convertible with Sienna interior. It is really, really nice. Nice enough that I traded my 07 for it.
As stated above, constraints are generally supplier related. They are temporary and happen every year throughout the order cycle for that year. Also, this is not just a Corvette issue, it happens from time to time on a lot of different car orders.

When I was buying in '06 it was Z51 that was on constraint. Remember that nonsense, with all of the conspiracy theories about how it impacted CAFE ratings so it was all the government's fault?
The existing 4LT/3LZ cars are not exactly flying out of the showrooms either. The combination of a high price, option bundling, limited colors, and release in the same year as a generally improved interior in the base cars have meant the rags like Car&Drivel are more excited about it than actual buyers seem to be.

I don't think that's true. The inventory of 4LT cars is steadily declining and having watched the black ones, they're going onto inventory and out in a few days. I think there is considerable pent-up demand for them.
Do you have some statistics that lead you to this conclusion? Let's face it, many buyers have more money then sense. One typical Corvette buyer is 40s to 50s with excess cash.
$3K for the 4LT isn't even a consideration. You like it, you buy it.

I disagree. There are many vette buyers that are right at the cusp of being able to afford a vette. Another 3 or 4 grand extra means they might not buy the car. Pricing is rather sensitive for most buyers when you are over 50 grand.
Already some folks are financing these cars 84 months which boarders on insanity IMO. My buddy is a sales manager for a large GM dealership and said he's amazed at many young people STRETCH big time to buy a vette. New loans are much tighter so some that qualified befor will get much higher rates or perhaps not approved.
An extra 4 grand over the cost of 72 month loan starts getting rather expensive. I'll bet when it's all said and done the 4LT option won't account for more than 5% of total sales on vettes. Not everyone is rolling in money and can't simply say if they like just buy it!
As of today's allocation, the 4LT and 3LZ options are no longer on constraint. If anyone is looking to order, we have immediate allocation available to place the order this week...before it goes on constraint again!

I think we're both right. That's why the C6 goes from a 1LT coupe at $40K to an $80K Z06. Something for everyone. I completely agree that 4LT won't be more than 5% -- in fact, I'd bet 2-3. It is expensive and doesn't offer much beyond the 3LT except pretty seats and a dashboard.
I just happen to like it. The Corvette is fascinating as it appeals to so many different demographics. It's a supercar at a great price. It's a supercar/luxury car that is more expensive but still a great price compared to anything with which it would match up.
Find me a Porsche, Ferrari, Lambo or other car with comparable specs and tell me the 4LT car is over priced
Although if you're going to an 84 month loan, personally I think you need to rethink the purchase. Cars are depreciating assets. Financing is for appreciating assets (i.e. homes). I didn't own a Corvette, even though I wanted one, until I could afford to write a check.

Heck we're in agreement so lock down this thread! I believe exactly the same as you about 84 months of financing. When you add up the total cost of ownership it's crazy! A younger person is FAR FAR better off buying a home then doing heavy duty financing of something like a vette. On the other hand we need these type of buyers to keep the economy chugging along.......

I have been shopping around for 3LZ cars, and I've talked to several sales folks about them. There are very, very few cars available, most at a discount (even from dealers than don't normally discount), and they aren't moving all that fast. (Except, oddly, for the few 3LZ/JSB/Linen cars, which were snapped up quickly. Naturally, that's the combo I was looking for. ) So, that's how I came to that conclusion.
The typcial Corvette buyer's income, last I read, was less than $150K. That's far from rolling in cash.
