It has a DVD drive; the map data is stored on a DVD. To upgrade that to a later version, you just put in the new DVD. It doesn't "play" DVDs, as in streaming video to the screen, nor do any of the C6 nav systems as far as I know. You'd need to go to an aftermarket system to get that.

If you have a OEM navigation unit it has to have the DVD drive. I assume that you are looking to play movie DVD's and that can't be done with the factory unit. If you want to play movies you will either need to send your head unit out to have a video in added and purchase a DVD player or go with an aftermarket head unit like a Pioneer AVIC.
