Hope everyone is having a great day. I purchased the factory Navigation Unit, and will be replacing my Factory Six-Disc CD Changer. I'd like to maybe somehow avoid taking it in to get installed ($200+tax) by doing it myself, but I don't want to do something that might cause something else to blow out or anything like that.
My questions are:
1. Has anyone here installed the factory Navigation themselves, and if so, what steps did you take to do it? (Since I have the BOSE system, I'm assuming it's pretty much plug and play, but again, I'm making sure which is why I'm posting this). Do you have to take the center console cluster off, and if so, how do you do that without breaking it?
2. Are there any instructions online as to how to do this switch? I did a search, but maybe someone else out there has better information than I do when looking.
3. If you did install it, where did you place the antenna?
Thanks for reading, and if there's anything else in regards to information you'd like to provide, I'd be more than willing to listen.
You might do better posting this in the audio section, but it would seem to me that if you already have the Blose system it would be plug and play. All the connectors you need should already be behind the console. As far as removing the bezel, it's simple. Lift up the e-brake cover, remove the 2 screws. The passenger side trim just pulls out. Take the shift **** off...Pull the boot down and there is a torx screw, remove it. Open the center console, take out the 2 screws(08), lift up the plastic cover (05-07) and take out the screws. Lift and pull out the console.
I'm not sure where the factory GPS antenna is located.
If you are handy, this should take all of 15 minutes.
I have a 3LT 08. Take the center console out (search the forum if you need instructions on this). Unscrew teh climate control, carefully lay it on the center console, then go ahead and unscrew the head unit, remove it, unplug the cables, and install the nav. Plug all teh cables into it that you just unplugged, plus one additional connector which is actually taped to one of the existing harnesses you just plugged in, reverse the order and your done.
You can put the car in accessory mode to see if you did it correctly, the Nav will work until you turn the car on - at which point it will go into anti-theft mode. Then take the car to the dealer, flip the SA 20bucks, and have them version code the nav so teh car knows its there.
Forgot about the antenna - i put mine on top of the left center air vent duct above the unit. mine fit in there snug so i didn't tape it or anything.
Agree with Aceman -- Unless its a brand-new _never ever_ installed radio, I think he will have to take it to Mr Goodwrench to do the Radio VIN relearn on the Tech2.
Prices are anywhere from free to $50 for that little procedure.
I bought it from EBAY, for $800.00. I am not really a handy type guy, but it seems easy to install. My problem is removing the console, do I really need to take the shift **** off? I tried to slide the boot off it (I have the '05 automatic) but it seems impossible to do. What gives?

I've never personally done it myself, but I have the factory shop manual, and it shows a simple "C" clip...the manual shows the clip to be at the base of the ****, and on the front side (the side facing the engine).
