Default Ignition switch question...

Hello!

Just a quick question as I could not find the answer via Search; How much "play" is normal from the ignition switch? Mine moves a "little" either way when pressed "very" lightly at the corners (as not to turn it on or off).

Just a question-esp those with an 05.

Thx.

Red Cell.

I have no play in mine, but I also have an '07.

I would be concerned about even a small amount of play in the ignition switch. I've seen several posts on this forum where people have pressed the ignition switch too hard and it went into the dash. If you have play, then your switch is already a little loose and more likely to play a game of hide and seek.

The switch is held in on each side by tabs slotted into a bracket. Some people wrap the back side of the switch in tape to keep the bracket tight on the tabs.

Especially dicey if it falls through and you can't turn your engine off.

Might be good to carry four exhaust tip-sized potatoes in one the rear cubbies. For engine emergency shut-off purposes...

Thanks.

This appears to be my first problem with my 05.

I'll bring her in and get it checked out.

Thanks again for responding.

No play at all in my '05 switch. I would consider this a potential risk to your switch falling in to the dash. I think that your thought to take it in for a look is a good one.

Should have no play. If the switch is loose in the IPC trim plate, either the switch or the trim plate may have lost retention. The fix would be a switch or trim plate replacement, which ever is necessary.

I replaced my switch last week for a crack in the switch. If it falls through, you can let the clutch out to stop engine, but you would not be able to restart.
