The NCM offers C6 Shift Boots to match exterior colors. Has anyone purchased one and if so, how difficult are they to replace? What does it take to remove the old boot and replace with the new one?

You do not need to remove the console to remove the shifter boot.
Pull the boot down around the base of the shift ****. Take out the screw on the driver's side of the shifter shaft that holds on the shift ****. Pull the know straight off the shaft.
The shifter boot is fastened to a plastic form that has flat sides about 1 inch high. Attached to this plastic ring are about five " fingers" that catch under the edge of the console. Slip a dull screwdriver blade between the shift boot and the console at about (12, 2, 5, 7 and 10 o'clock) and carefully push down. This will allow the fingers to disengage from the underside of the console lip. Work your way around and release all the fingers. When you have released the fingers, you can pull the shift boot/plastic ring off the shifter shaft as a complete unit.
IIRC, you must re-use the plastic ring from your old shifter boot. Just observe how the stock boot is attached and duplicate in reverse for the aftermarket boot.
It only takes a few minutes to remove the console and you do have to re-use the ring, so just to be safe... I would remove the console like the "book" say's....
You can remove the shift boot by either method. Personally I wouldn't go to the trouble of removing the console unless I had issues getting the ring out. DS Vettes website has installation instructions. Those instructions show how to remove the ring without taken out the console. http://www.dsvettes.com/Instructions/Shift%20Boot/2.jpg
BTW I just replaced my stock shift boot (without removing the console) and stock e-brake boot with two tone boots to match my shift ****, e-brake handle and center console cover from Vette Essentials. Pictures soon.

The GM instructions for replacing the boot (which I have in front of me) do NOT require the console removal to remove and replace the boot. Rather, it specifically indicates you should remove the shift know and then the boot PRIOR to removing the console. These are the GM instructions that came with my cashmere shift boot and know I got from Gene.
Also, I am not sure about the one from NCM, but the Casmere one I got from Gene had the plastic piece already attached. I just removed the old boot/ring assembly and installed the new one. There was nothing form e to put together. It was a piece of cake.
Cheers!

The shift boot I just installed from Vette Essentials also came with elastic around the bottom, but it didn't come with the plastic ring. I removed the staples from the ring and installed the new boot. I also put some staples in it to help hold it to the plastic ring. I did not remove the console to remove the stock boot or to install the new one.
