I want to black out the sidemarkers on my car. What have people used to black it out, does just normal window tint work or is it some special kind of film? I want something reversible.
Since the online film kits are so cheap and thin (and are too small to cover the entire surface area) I chose to go to a professional tint shop.
The shop measured each marker individually, cut a template, then generated the thicker, darker film and installed it perfectly in about a half hour for $60. They even gave me the template for future use.
get another set of them and paint them.. it just looks better that way. i took mine off, sanded them and painted with regular car paint. still shines through great.
those are nice but not for $140, i rather just get them painted for that price
and like you all said, its my car payment not yours, im not looking for peoples opinion on the subject if i should black them out or not just how people did it

According to the service manual, you need to access the front sidemarker lenses by removing the front wheels and then removing or opening the inner fender liner grasp and squeeze the tabs to the lens and then push the lens out.
For the rear you need to access the lenses from inside the trunk compartment by pulling back the carpet to gain access to the rear lenses and then like the front squeeze the tabs and then push outwards.
I would rather just go with the acrylic covers which can be removed and replaced with new clear doublesided 3m tape.
DO NOT USE THE TINT SIDEMARKER KITS, they do not work they are not cut good and will make your car look cheap. I tried that route and had to remove them. Luckily the vendor here is upstanding and agreed to take it back and give me a refund. The tint is not dark enough as it will only mask the lenses giving it a cloudy look.

Thanks for the info. I put the tint on mine and it looks like crap. It's coming off. Do the acrylic covers stick out very much ?
for the C6 just get a torque's bit take off the tail light closest to the fender and you can reach right in and pop the side marker out. i went and bought some 5% tint from a local shop enough to do the tail lights and the markers for $6.10 went on like butter looks good and so far it has held through roughly 8 car wash's and speeds of 180+..... took maybe an hour or 2 to do everything.....

Just curious, how do you clean it when it gets dirty? Window tint is on the inside of the windows, protected from the elements.
I have acrylic on the tail lights and have been waiting for these.... I think I'll be replacing the film I have on the side markers.... I like the smooth/ almost flush look of the acrylic... As you can see in this pic the film covers most but not all of the side marker....

Tom, the acrylic will stick out. Your only problem with the film you used was the poor quality and inadequate surface coverage. As I said in post #3, I had a professional tint shop use a better grade of tint film on mine that covered the entire marker and they are flawless.
I had mine tinted by Jonstintedtails.com. He's done many for me. I wish I could get my son to put up some pics but take my word they look awesome! He bought me a new set and had them tinted for my birthday. His friend just bought a new JSB coupe and I gave him my original set to get tinted and when they come back he'll return his take-offs to me. You'll love it.

I'll have to pay a visit to the guy @ the graphics shop that put those on and see if he can cut/ apply some that cover the entire light... Putting it up for the winter in the next couple of weeks, I'll take them out and give him a call...

well i hand wash my car every week and i just wash right over as if it wasnt tinted. i know it wont last for ever but the tint i got is very very good quality from what i can tell so far. for 6$ if i have to do it once a year im not complaining!
me and a buddy are gonna get some stock side markers and modify them with some LED panels one thing i dont like about them is when the markers are on all you can see is the little lit up circle from the stock bulb very weak.

I bought side marker overlays from www.bluebatmobile.net
I also bought overlays for the headlights and foglights.
IMHO, the overlays that I bought are okay but not perfect. They were relatively inexpensive and the only ones I found readily available at the time and were easy to install. After seeing the new addition from GScreations for the side markers, I'll likely switch to those. My rear lights are the acrylic overlays from GScreations and I am very happy with those. Just depends on how much you want to spend.....
BTW, both the overlays and the acrylic covers are removable as I had to do when I had my car last inspected.
