The problem with Chevrolet
I went to go test drive the new Malibu only because I've heard such great reviews. No, I'm not looking to get rid of my Vette, just looking for a replacement for my 300M. Well, while I was in there I asked them why I have never seen an 08 Vette with the leather dash interior. They looked at me funny like I was speaking a foreign language. I told them yes, you can get a leather interior on the Vette. They said, oh, we've never seen one. I said, take a look at the website some time and you'll see for yourself. As if this wasn't bad enough the guy that came with me on the test drive of the malibu didn't know much about the car.
What is it with salesmen not having a clue about the products they sell. Is it asking too much for these people to do a little research on the vehicles they make their money off of? Not only does it make them look bad but it also makes Chevy look bad.
Lastly, I know this isn't specific to Chevrolet or GM for that matter, but it was a bad experience nonetheless and I'd have to say Chevrolet tops the charts in poor salespeople.
With that being said, I still love my Vette.

Well, I feel sorry for the Chevy dealerships that you must put up with.
"My" Corvette salesman is a former C5 owner and knows almost as much about corvettes in general and C6s in particular as I do. I don't know if he's that knowledgeable about the other cars he sells, but I suspect he is.

I don't think that it's a GM thing.
I went to buy a new big HDTV this wekend and the salesperson didn't have a clue. Also the last time I went to buy my Jeep the sales team was not very sharp.

What year is your 300M? I had one around 2000 and it was a great car. Didn't get such good reviews and the resale tanked but I loved it. Good mileage and pretty fast for a V6.
And as far as stumbling on an uninformed sales person...its not hard to find "undermotivated" people in any profession.

Dave, You are the exception that proves the rule.
It's probably a pleasure doing business with you. I felt that way about Dave Salvatore at Kerbecks when I ordered my C6 from him.
It's exceptions like these that I always look to do business with.

I just saw it at the auto show. Overall it's a nice sedan but when you open the moonroof the panel slides over the roof rather than into it; it looks really stupid. If I was in the market for a car like the Malibu, that roof would be a deal breaker.
I learned all I needed to know about the Corvette from the fine "teachers" on this forum. The purchase of my 08 Vert was from a forum dealer many states away (Tommy/McMulkin Chevrolet), The new ride was picked up at the NCM. I never dealt with anyone who was not an expert on the Corvette.
not sure if my relative is the exception, or the rule, he had worked at 4 different car dealerships, in the last year. he goes from one dealership to another, takes advantage of the commision and draw system they use, guess they guarantee weekly salary, for a short period, then its draw, plus commission, kinda hard to become professional, if your jumping from one dealer to anothber, around here, salesmen change dealerships, as often as i change my socks....guess your better off, getting all the info you can on the vehicle you want, on sites like this one, then going out and testing the waters.....if you go out hoping a salesman will set you in the right direction, forgetabout it, they know one thing, have to make a buck today....cant blame them, thats just the american way.....
Many smaller dealerships don't get much allocation. If you are speaking about a small dealerhsip, I can understand why an individual saleman might not know much about one of the more expensinve option packages on a car he might not likely sell

Hey, I wouldn't blame Chevrolet. I can tell you that every car I ever bought over the last 40 years, (both foreign & domestic)I knew more about their products & product line than the salesman did. I think this is because car salesman move around from one manufacturer to another, and secondly, most car salesman are NOT car guys. They're salesman (or salespersons) and if they were selling cars, vacuum cleaners or condums it wouldn't matter. Personally, the few guys out there who DO know their products & are enthusiastic must be doing a killing. I'd love to sell cars myself ,but, the hours suck. There ya go.

Guess I've been lucky, both salesmen of the last 2 vettes I bought were knowledgeable and both had been to a vette driving school.
My local chevrolet dealership has no allocations and let their certification expire, so they cant even order one vette.....and they for sure have no idea of what they are doing. The owners are nice, but the salesman are ......uh....brain dead I think.
Ok, perhaps my comment was a little harsh. I will ammend it. MOST of the salespeople I have met wouldn't know their product from a competitors, and it has nothing to do with cars.
We have not met, and likely never will, but I do appreciate that you aren't a typical salesperson.
I went looking at 2008 Coupes on Friday (just for fun.) and the salesman asked me to come back, so he could learn about the C6 from me. (he claimed he has a C5 'vert too.)

It ain't GM or even just a car dealer thing.......It's everywhere.
Today I called my local audio electronics store and when I asked what time they closed I was put on hold while "he checked." True story!
