I agree, very confusing. On the Corvette with Nav, this button is the "Voice Recognition" button, not the "Talk Button", however, both icons are the same. The "Talk Button" is always on the steering wheel, for the cars that have it (not Corvette).
The wife's Cad has the "Talk Button" on the steering wheel, which is also the "Virtual Advisor" button. I can access my VME by using this button.

I do not have the nav, but was told it could not be done and that you should hit the onstar button and have them do it for you. Most of the time, if you do not dial an extension number, it will eventually go to an operator. That has worked for me a couple of times.
If anyone knows how to do it on a 08 without nav, I would appreciaite if you would let me know.
