Default Thinking about C6

Looking at a GM buy back from California. O7 LT2 with 6K miles on it.
Trading 04 with 40K, a new engine installed 10K miles ago by dealer and in perfect shape.

So far not even close they want $12k plus my car. That's about $24K for my car.

Hell I'd buy another 04 like mine for $24K.

I think you'll find the consensus here is great caution on the GM buy back . . . while some of them are over claimed and over stated, the vast majority would seem to have legitimate issues that- were they fixable- would never have been bought back . . .so the cloud remains.

Even if it's a really, really good deal . . . I think most here would suggest that you keep looking . . . .

Good luck - -

you have to understand that regardless of the condition Dealerships will never take a trade in for retail or even actual wholesale. On average, its about $2000 back of wholesale low book. If you want more take it private part market route. However you run the risk of losing what may be a good deal by taking the time and effort to sell your car. In this particular case; buy back? do some research and homework...you don't want a money pit

Dealerships need to make money to stay in business, buy low sell high. Remember that so next time around your not shocked when you think they are low balling you on the trade.

If they're wanting $36K for a buy-back '07, I think that's more than it's worth. I would be warry of any Vette that was a buy-back. There's just too big a chance of the problem(s) that justified the buy-back in the first place to come back and haunt you. Keep shopping.

You got good advise here, so it would be to your benefit to first sell your car rather then trading it in. Second I would take a look at some of the dealers on this forum to see if they have 07s still in stock and see what kind of deals you can get on them.

Is a C6 worth it, I would say so, as the car has improved over the C5.

Whatever you decide, good luck.

I would be cautious of a dealer buy back. We went through an issue with my wife’s Hummer H3, it would mysteriously apply the brakes and stability control while driving down the road. There were no warnings and car would automatically go from 65/70 down to 20 and there was nothing you could do. We had it in the shop 3 or 4 times and the dealer had no idea how to fix it. Each time we got it back they thought it was solved but it was not fixed.

I would not want something crazy like that to happen to my new (or new to me) corvette.

...keep look'n - with respect to your trade-in value - probably going to find thats about ballpark for a trade at a stealership. I'd try selling it yourself, typically you can always do better.

When spending a large amount of money like $30K+ dollars, why risk it all on a possibly highly problematic buy back. GM didn't buy it back because they wanted to, they bought it back because they couldn't (economically) fix whatever the problem was. I have a strong feeling that the original owner was glad to get rid of it.....why would you be so keen to risk a large amount of money to buy someone else's problem.

What may appear to be a potential savings of a just few thousand dollars may turn out to be your worst nightmare.

There are plenty of other options out there, brand new 07s are being discounted at extremely attractive prices, as are new 08s. Plus there are low mileage, no-problem-history used C6s for sale.

It's your money, but I would pass.

I'm leaning to your way of thinking. How can I trust dealer that it was a wind noise problem????

You can't unless there's GM issued documentation . . .depending upon the timeline, you might be able to post the VIN and someone on the forum (like GMAutotech) can run the VIN to grab the history . .

I've not heard of any buy-back based upon window noise however, and would be extremely skeptical absent solid GM documentation.

I agree I'd be wary of a buy back.

BTW, if I am reading your post correctly, you had to have the engine replaced in your '04 at 30,000 miles? I just wondered what happened.

Good luck.

Long story short.

One day at 40 mph it just blew the crank right out the bottom. New GM engine $8030.05 . Chevy even had the motor sent back to factory, never heard if they found anything.

Holy Smoke, that's enough to ruin your day!!!

Obviously something dramatic happened for a vehicle that had presumably been running fine for 30,000 miles to suddenly decide to let the crankshaft get some fresh air!

I guess the first thought would be a lubrication failure of some sort, blocked oilway etc. Or a metal fatique problem in one of the crank journals......or, or, or, ........damn that is strange!!!!

The dealer stayed in a state of stupidity. So I Pass on the buy back.

Now for mods to C5 so I can kick some C6 butt.

What i liked was the paddle shift and 6 speeds.

Oh well

Still love the C6 Too
