Default NPP conversion questions

Who has done this on a pre-08 C6 and how well did it work? Did you notice any HP or performance gain? I'm guessing not. I did a search without much luck...I probably need remedial search instruction.

I am so tempted to spring for the mufflers after seeing/hearing the video clip. Seems a bit spendy when compared to after market exhaust, but I like the options it provides.

I am value driven (read that frugal) but sent my check to support this forum today. This is a great place and I appreciate it.

It has been done. There are a couple of options - do an OEM conversion - there is a thread on this. (See Talon90's search tutorial sticky). Pipedreams (Ed at Nakid parts) has a system that controls the OEM NPP/Z06 muflers without all the installation hassles.

You are in luck I have done it and it's great. I also developed the first stand alone system to run the NPP so in 15 min or less you save around $200+ and do need all those GM parts

modshacks system sounds great and I now have the NPP on my 2005 but no headers Here is much more including videos

Pipedreams,

Yeah, I know you did it. It was your d*amn video that got me into this mod fever. By the way, the mud flaps arrived today. Thanks.

From everything I have been told about it.....it wont give you any extra hp and will sound about the same as your current stock system with the NPP valve closed. With it open, it will sound wild and loud and you also will get some drone. If you are considering adding headers, it would give you both option worlds, still quiet and very loud.

But personally, if you dont plan headers, for the same money or maybe less, I would go for a Corsa Sport system. Sounds good all the time, not too quiet and not too loud and Corsa is the only aftermarketer that guarantees no drone.

However, the corsa has an "exotic" higher pitched tone to it, I do not like that at all. The NPP has a deep, muscular sound which I prefer.

Honestly I was in the garage taking some pictures and I started it up with the door closed and it sounded like a nascar car

Well...that depends on what you compare it to. If you have driven, say, some Ferrari's like I have, there is no way the Corsa could compare as an "exotic" high pitched system. It sure doesnt sound "exotic" to me. Plus, the issue of having absolutely NO drone with my A6 was more important to me than the sound.

Good points you make. I like the fact that I can have mild or wild whenever I want, althought it will be wild 90% of the time. If there's drone on the highway, I can simply go into mild mode.

Yes, that is good...and true In fact, am in the process of getting headers and was seriously considering going NPP for that. However after talking to some, it appeared it would be too quiet in mild mode and too loud in wild mode. So am adding them with my Corsa's...should be ok at lower revs and louder but not wild at high revs...and still no drone. Still....its possible with those new hi flo cats it might get into a higher pitch tone and indeed sound like an exotic Ferrari!

Funny how we're all in different situations. I won't ever go the headers route, not because it's a bad idea, it's just nor for me. I was seriously considering B&B route 66, but it's a bit to mellow. On the other hand, the B&B bullets are too loud. The NPP(wild) is right between them, that's perfect! I was considering Corsa, but from what I've read, they have a higher pitched sound than the NPP, not for me.

I am not sure headers are for me either....Never had them before.
I like the idea of headers cutting about .35 off my ET, but am not so hot about really LOUD noise. For sure I am keeping my stock manifolds and cats around, cuz I could be switching back to them...real soon! I really like my Sports....they could be a bit louder...so we'll see.

So, I'm trying to get my head around this. I have ARH's with GM performance mufflers. Can I simply install the NPP mufflers and the pipedream controller? Or is there more to it than that?
