I paid for my 1 st vette out of state (did not receive car yet). The dealer is telling me,that the car it may not be ny emissions and it has a fe9 code which might be a problem, so tomorrow I will call DMV and give them the vin#. A co-worker of mine bought a GMC truck in NJ and there was a code that was not fit for NY and could not register. They had to take the car back. I guess I will know more once I speak to DMV. It was for my 1 st vette so Im heart broken right now. Anyone know anything about this, because Im lost right now.

FE9 is the RPO order code for Federal Emissions. The RPO code for Ny emissions (Maine, Massachusetts, New York and Vermont) is NE1. It is my understanding that the Corvette is 50 state emissions legal from the factory. Unless this car was slated to be an export I'm not sure how it wouldn't pass Ny state emissions testing. My recollection is that the FE9 RPO is the current standard and the old California and New York overrides are carryover's from days past. I suspect that the car will be fine.

I dont think it should be any different than if someone was living out of state moved to New York with their vette. They would be able to register it.

For the '08 model year the emission standards are:

FE9 - Use for vehicles registered in all states except California, Conn, Mass, NY, Penn, RI, and Vermont

YF5 - Use for ordering vehicles that will be registered in California.

NE1 - Use for vehicles that will be registered in: Conn, Mass.,Maine, NY, Penn, RI and Vermont. These states are required to meet California Standards.

This was discussed in a couple threads last week. A Calif member was having difficulty with a car he leased from a dealer out of state and Calif DMV was making him jump through hoops to get the car emissions tested and certified. He questioned the necessity of this since we have been told the cars are 50 state legal now.

Shopdog posted that the cars are 50 state legal but, there is the carryover issue of an additional test and/or certification that the factory does for Calif and NE cars. He said it is just the addition certification stickers to those cars, the RPO codes YF5 or NE1. He finished with, it's just political BS.

So the to OP, your car has to be certifiable for NY registration, you just may have to spend a little more money and time for an emissions test to get the certification or maybe your dealer will do it for you. Like BlackZ51Vett said, it is just like someone moving to NY from another state and bringing their car with them. It has to go through the emissions testing to get NY registration.

Thanks Rick ....I called GM and said that in 2007 vettes was 50 state legal, but that changed for 2008. Im just afraid to have the car shipped here and have a problem. I also don't think a dealer here will help me since Im not buying the car from them. I used one of the forum dealers.

Can the forum dealer re-order your car with the NY spec even though they're in NJ?

OK... Put the rules and laws aside for a moment.

Assuming there are no relevant physical differences in cars destined for the various states, then the only possible differences would have to be in their software programming. Are Corvettes programmed differently based on their destination states? I doubt it, but even if they are then they should be reflashable by dealers to meet the requirements of any particular state.

I think you need to call the DMV and find out how to get it certified and see if the forum dealer will help you with the cost.

Its funny I called DMV and she said if car is new it will pass, but after speaking to her supv. he stated that if the car is not Cal or 50 state, that I would have a problem. Car is from WI not NJ. I will find out if I can order but for same price. Im waiting for there call. Wish me luck. Marc

I don't get it. The car would definitely pass any emissions test you want to subject it to. Why can't you just take it to a state-licensed testing facility and get it certified?

I don't get it either. YOu mean people moving from one state to another have to sell their cars and buy another one? No.

Why don't you call the forum dealer in NJ and ask them the q.? They must sell lots of Corvettes to NY state residents, and NJ is NOT one of the NE1 states listed in the list.
