GM bluetooth technology is about one step above carrier pigeon. Good luck trying to find a phone that actually works with the system. I don't know if you can use the system without dealing with Onstar - I doubt it though. I do know that if you're on Verizon, you can have the cars' hands free phone added to your existing Verizon account as an extra line. I did it and it works great. You'll get a new number from Verizon but otherwise it works the same. It shows up on your Verizon bill as just another number and it has all of the Verizon perks (free IN calling, etc.).
