post the last 8 of your VIN here and someone can look it up. Or call you dealer, they can look it up in a system called VIS.

Send the complete VIN and your email address to GMautotech via PM, along with what you want (build date) and he'll look it up for you.

Here's a link to his profile.

A friend is looking to buy a 2007 leftover and would like to know the build dates of 2 different vehicles. He asked if I could find out. Here are the VINs:

1G1YY36U275120329

1G1YY36U775135652

Also, where can I find what each of the characters/digits mean?

Thanks

I approximated the earlier one to be mid December and the later one to be mid May. But that was by taking the total produced divided by 12 to come up with a monthly average. So there could easily be a 2-3 week range. My '07 VIN ends in 3537 and was produced at the end of July. So it would seem that early in the production year they are making more per month. If I'm not mistaken the 2007 production year started 6/28/06.

I was sure I had seen a monthly production chart somewhere but I can't find one now. And I KNOW I saw one that explained the VIN number. I got to remember to bookmark stuff like this when I see it the first time.

Here's one.

This is an example of a VIN # for a 2006 Corvette Coupe:
1 G 1 Y Y 2 6 U 3 6 5 1 0 0 0 0 1
There are 17 characters. Starting with first character on left the codes are:
1. "1"= Built in US
2. "G"= General Motors
3. "1"= Chevrolet
4. Denotes the car line: Corvette is a "Y" body.
5. Provides more info about the car:
Usually a "Y" but the ZR-1 is "Z"
6. Body style: "1" = FRC, "2" = Coupe, "3" = Convertible
7. Restraint code
8. Engine:
L98="8"
LT1="P"
ZR1="J"
LT4="5"
LS1="G"
LS6="S”
LS2=”U”
LS3=”W”
LS7=”E”
9. Check Digit – 0 to 9 or X
10. Model year:
"B" thru "N" are yrs '81-'92 respectively
"P"='93
"R" thru "T" '94-'96
"V"='97
"W"='98
"X"='99
"Y"='00
"1"='01
“5”=’05
“6”=’06
“7”=’07
11. Plant: Bowling Green = "5"
12-17. Production sequence number that starts with the #1 for each model yr.
