Default Ignition switch replaced. However;

Hello all;

A short while ago I asked the Forum about a loose ignition switch. The feedback I recieved indicated that I should have a dealer look at it as soon as possible.

They did and it's been replaced (the switch still "has play" when moved up and down without actually starting the car-which is "normal" as I compared it to three other new 07's they were selling).

However, the last few days (since I picked the car up)I've noticed something interesting. The car won't turn off unless I hold the toggle down for about 1-2 seconds. This is longer than before but I'm wondering if anyone could comment on this issue. As far as I can tell, perhaps what I had before was indicative of my initial problem and this is how it actually works (I seem to recall just "touching" the bottom portion turned it off within a second and holding it down a little longer started it).

I have a call into the tech but thought I'd ask the Forum for advice. A tried a quick search and have not come across anything. Is it possible the vehicle can still run after 2-3 seconds of holding the switch down?

Thanks.

Red Cell.

Sounds like maybe you got an updated switch or software.

In either 2007 or 2008 that change was made so the car couln't be shut off accidently by bumping the bottom of the switch.

I don't want to go against the grain here, but to start, I just touch the top of the button and the car takes care of how long it may need to crank.
To stop it, I am like the rest of you and have to hold the button for a little longer than a second.........

On my '05, I do not have to hold to start or stop engine. I just press and release.

I drove an 2008 Z06, and to stop the engine, I did have to hold for about 2 seconds.

The software is in the BCM, not the start switch.

Update:

To provide more accurate information, I can actually press the bottom portion of the toggle until it actually hits something. I can keep it there without turning the ignition off. However, if I press it further, it does turn off. I cannot do the same to turn it on-any pressure will light her up.

It's not the method I used to turn her off before, but I suspect this was the way it should have worked in the first place.

Cool. Thought I'd ask and thanks to those whom responded. That's why I love this Forum.

In my 06 I can tap the button very lightly and it will start and to turn it off I just press it down lightly and its off.

Now my parents 07 I can tap it to turn on, but I have to hold it down for a few seconds to turn it off.

Red Cell,
It sounds like you ignition switch is working okay, but the odditiy your having with the OFF position may be because of how the switch was installed. Your suppose to press the Acc. button to turn it off, not press, then press harder.

I have an '08 and all I do is press, and release, for ON and press, and release, for OFF.

You know what, I have not tried the accessory button yet (can't believe it)...I'll update to see if there's a qwirk.

Otherwise, it appears that I have a "newer" type toggle/switch.

Interesting information. My 06 just requires a touch to start or stop. However, the C6's at Spring Mountain - all that I drove - required that I hold down the switch for a couple of seconds to stop the engine. I thought it strange at the time. Now it appears that they may have updated the BCM.

Yes...accessory works perfect. I just have to hold it down longer than before both to stop the engine from running and engage the accessory mode.

Starting it was just as easy as when I made the original purchase.

The things one learns...

Thanks everyone.
