Question please, Tis the time of the yr when many seem to be getting into wrecks, atlest more seem to be showing up here, 1 reason or another. My question is, regardless of how well your car is fixed, will it 1 show up on a carfax that it was in a mishap? 2 if so how does that offect the resale of the car? 3 many of us are into mods , aka z06 fronts and butts, all new body parts, no differant then if in a mishap, see my point? will that offect it in a neg way?
I'm not sure what parameters cause the Carfax to pop up.
Regarding resale, it all depends on what the next purchaser thinks. A proper repair will return a car to its preexisting condition, just less orange peel . Z06 panels or body kits to me would be no different than someone who had to have the panels replaced and painted because of a cosmetic type accident. If either is done right, it rests with the opinion of the next guy/gal.
I had a minor mishap with a Mercedes that wound up being about 10K in damages (not so minor bill) but it did not show on the carfax about a year later when I checked.
If I ever resell, which right now I don't plan on, I kept a copy of the repair invoice which shows most of the damage was to the exhaust system and rear fascia.
It might help with the resale value.
I think that in most states, when you sell the car, the odometer statement asks "Was this vehicle ever involved in a single accident that resulted in greater than $3000 in damages?" (or some such text and $ number).
Yes, you can lie on that form, but it's considered Fraud (or worse), and pretty easy to get caught if you do. Hopefully, for most people, it isn't worth committing a crime to try to save some money on a car sale.
Also, upgrading to Z06 panels may exceed the dollar limit, but unless the panels were put on as part of an 'accident' repair, then it wouldn't be applicable to that form's question.
Best thing to do is keep the repair invoice *and* pictures of the car in it's _unrepaired_ state, so that the next buyer can see for himself what the extent of the damage was.
