Last night I heard what sounded like the alarm on my C6. However, as I went toward the garage, the noise stopped. Naturally, I assumed that it wasn't my car after all. This morning, as I was backing my other car out of the drive, I noticed that the hatch on my Vette was open.
That's what set off the alarm. Apparently, I'd hit the hatch release button on the fob while I was getting something else out of my pocket. Fortunately, all the electrical systems worked as advertised, and the car started up right away. No dead battery for me.
I've left my hatch open for hours and it doesn't set of the alarm.
I was thinking the same thing, which is why I posed the question. Maybe if you lock the doors with the hatch open it will go off after some time? I left mine open for a few hours as well.......no alarm.

Mine is set to auto lock the doors when shut, and with doors shut (and locked) with the hatch left open indefinitely the alarm doesn't sound.
