Default Dead battery/charging problem....

The battery on my 2007 'vert is dead. When I hook up the charger, the horn honks repeatedly as it would if the panic button was pushed on the fob. Any idea how to stop this? The battery is too dead for the fob to do anything, I tried "unlocking" the doors to turn it off to no avail.

Any help?

Thanks, Shawn

Default Dead Battery ON '07

I had a similar problem with my '07. Apparently there was a bad batch of batteries used in some cars. Dealer replaced it & tested the system for any faults, but it was just the battery. I could get a jump start to get it going but it wouldn't last long. Have Chevy flatbed it to the nearest dealer.

Apparently the alarm system has been tripped and as soon as the battery is hooked it starts blaring. I would disconnect the battery and charge it then reconnect and see what happens.

I'm trying that as we speak. Does it matter which I hook back up first (positive or negative)? I'll post up what happens.

Thanks, Shawn

I think that these cars have a very small battery - probably to reduce weight, which is a good thing. However, it must be watched. If the car is lightly used, or used for short trips, the battery may not charge properly and develop sulfation. I think a battery maintainer is a must, unless the car is driven very often large distances.

Anybody knows the OEM battery capacity (Ah)?

Sticker says 590 CCA

I suspect the Vette is hard on batteries, not only from the draw of electronics, but from the constant high charge rate. Higher than I've seen in other cars with better regulation..

Not a big deal but hook up the positive first.

CCA is cold cranking Amps. That is the peak current the battery can supply for a short period of time to drive the starter; it is an indirect measure of the battery's internal resistance.

I am interested in battery capacity in Ampshour (Ah) a true measure of the stored energy. It's probably something like 40Ah or 50Ah.

A battery with a 50 Ah capacity will deplete itself in 1 hour delivering a constant 50 A or 5 hours delivering a constant 10A. Battery capacity is also useful to know to estimate battery charging using a trickle charger or battery maintainer.

I guess the OEM battery was too far gone. I charged it for ~3 hours, and nothing. Installed a new battery, and all is good. Thanks for all the help and input.
