The local dealer has an '08 coupe the right color and with Z51, except it's a 1LT package instead of the 3LT I was searching for. The critical differences (to me, anyway) between the 1LT and 3LT packages seem to be the seats, telescoping column, and the Bose speaker/6 CD radio. Question: are these items that will make the driving experience that much better, or will the typical C6 driver not notice the difference between a 1LT and a 3LT? As a newbie, I appreciate your opinions. Thanks.

Corvette people will know the equipment on your car by just looking at it. The first time I had my 3lt, Z51, npp to name a few pieces of equipment, club members said when they saw it, I orderd the car right. It depends on what is good for you and go for it. But, you might think about what resale equipment would be popular to other Corvette buyers too. IMO
3LT is, IMO, well worth the money. The HUD is great, the seats, with the powered lumbar and side supports, and telescoping wheel make you feel like the car is wrapped around you. While real audiophiles will criticize the Bose system, it is certainly an upgrade to the 1LT stereo, and a CD changer is important to me.
I agree, go without the NAV system. Better, portable systems are available for much less and you lose your CD changer when you upgrade to the NAV.
Since you are still shopping around, I suggest you also consider the 2-tone interior and the NPP exhaust. I have both of these options and I am very happy with both of them. The 2-tone interior looks very nice and the NPP exhaust sounds great.
If you can’t find one like you want it, order one. There is no reason you shouldn’t get exactly what you want.
Since I am small in stature (5'9") I needed a comfortable driving position which was only posible with the telescoping steering wheel. Yes, it only telescopes a couple of inches, but it's enough to make the difference for me. Only the 3LT has this feature, so it was a no brainer for me. The additional luxury items that come with this package are great too. I would tell you to get what you want without scrimping on a few bucks more. After all you are buying something you have wanted for some time, so go for the best fit for your desires.
Must have the HUD. I have used one for the last 8 years between my GTP and C5 and rarely look at my analog gauges. Too bad GM didn't offer it in the GTO. Oh well, just another reason to replace it with a C6 (3LT).
Suggestion: don't test drive the 3LT if you're trying to save money by buying the 1LT. Once you experience the HUD, telescoping wheel, upgraded stereo, and seats you'll probably want them.
As most have said - get want YOU want. Me I wanted it all so had to order. (Sept) The 4LT package was on hold till Nov, Get the car in JAN. Too me it is worth the wait to have a great car setup the way I want. IF you go that way (Order) then do the Museum Delivery, Everybody says its great and I can't wait.
To me the most significant differences between the two are 3LT's HUD, heated seats, memory seats/mirrors/steering column, the power passenger seat, and the ability to also order navigation.
dont forget the power top, if your going to buy the frills get them all while you can, much more expensive to add them later, if you decide to modify in the future, i have all the options, including universal remote, and steering wheel radio controls, to be honest, if i didn"t have these, after having it for 10 months, i would miss them all......
Go with what you originally wanted, otherwise you may always wish, "Gosh I wish I would have got the 3LT". I waited and found exactly what I wanted. Donn
