For normal Stock LS2, is it worth to purchase the K&N drop in Replacement Air filter that are lifetime reusable versus buying GM's Air Filter. I used the K&N Replacement on my Silverado and Acura MDX.
Thanks
We used K&N air filters here in Las Vegas for a work vehicle and oil analysis showed a high silica level (showing some sand getting through). I think for the cost and ease of changing a GM filter, I'll stick with OEM.
I would use it if you are like me and even forget you have an air filter to check. Don't think it offers much performance gain, but the install and forget about it for a while ability goes a long way with the absent minded.

I have the K&N air charger but I think the factory air cleaner is cheaper in the long run. The K&N does need cleaning and the you pay for the oil and it's a messy job.

I use the AC filters. They only need replacement every 8,000 to 15,000 miles. They cost about $8 and I prefer dry filters that are fresh & new each time.
I do not want the new, improved 1954-style where I have to mess around cleaning and re-oiling as with the K&N.
I agree you are better off with the OEM paper filters. They are much better filters, their restriction isn't enough more than the K&N to make any performance difference, and it won't break the bank to replace the Delco filters every 4th oil change (roughly every 24k miles).

It won't break the bank to replace a k&n every 4th oil change. I know many people have heard about OVER oiling the filter. I have yet to find anyone that dumb as to over oil it. If you think it might be a problem buy a new one and sell the old one.
