This post will probably be really boring for all current Vette owners but for others like me who are still waiting to purchase I thought I would relate my experience driving an 2006 M6 for the first time.
The other day I was at a local dealer checking out their new Vettes inside and asked if the LeMans Blue one outside was a stick. Sales guy says lets go check. We walk up and it is so I ask if there is any way I could go for a drive. He says jump in. I say what do you need from me (thinking license, proof of ins, etc). He says nothing, just get in. Okey Dokey then. Away we go. I babied it most of the way. Probably only drove 6-8 miles but got on it a bit when we got on the ramp to the highway and well.... As I told my dad who owns a '61 and is considering a C6, DO NOT drive a C6 unless you intend to buy one or enjoy tortured, sleepness nights wishing you could. I still don't think the smile has fully left my face.
One more note on my drive - As we leave the lot the sales guy tells me that they ask them to test drive their vettes and he hadn't yet so this is great for him. He wasn't pushy but had asked me to gas it a couple times. Being that we were in a 40mph I held back and said lets head up to the highway. So as we approach the on ramp with no one in front of us (with at least 10 sec warning), I tell him I'm going to check out 2nd-3rd. He says go for it. As we are rounding the curve (I am not confident to step on it yet) he opens the glove box, you know just to see whats in there. Bad timing. 2 secs later as I straighten out I step on it and he was instantly wearing everything in that box. It was pretty funny scaring him a couple more times after that as he tried put everything away. Fastest car I've ever driven for sure. My wait continues for now (the deal closer for me would be if they released that charcoal grey color on the ZR1 on the 09 base C6). Thanks to all who continue to share a lot of great info on this forum.
Not boring at all. We can all relate to that story. When I first drove the A6 and found that it matched revs on downshifts, I was a goner. My wife told me after the test drive that she had not seen "that" smile in a while.
I hope there is one in your garage soon and that the door from your house to your garage is well oiled, because it will be opening and closing a lot..............
I have been smiling since Kerbeck (Dave) called on Sept. 19th and said my car was being taken off the trailer. I picked it up on the 21st. and my life has changed more than I could ever describe. Those on the fence on 08 C6 GO FOR IT. This car is a rocket.
Great story! But, you shouldn’t do that to yourself! Now the want is worse and you will be thinking of that day over and over again! HAHA. My first ride in a C6 was amazing too, and as soon as I rode in one, I had to buy it. I think I lasted 2 days. Best thing I have ever done for myself!
Be patient and you will have one! Best of luck and remember to let us all know when you finally get it!
I also can't even think of driving something like this unless I'm ready to take it home. I had to wait an entire night with my C6 so the salesman would believe I didn't really want it at his price.
Great story, Matt! I'm confused about one thing, though...from your post it sounds like you're not yet a C6 owner, yet your profile says that you have a 2008 Machine Silver C6. Whattup?
kinda like potatoe chips, you cant just drive it once, go for it, you wont regret it.....i get off just looking at mine in the garage, sleeping for the winter.....
Great story. I didn't even test drive mine before I bought it. I knew from all the information on the CF that it would be scary fast. On the drive home from the dealer I found out how much you have to respect the power. What a car. Good luck on getting one soon.
Not boring because it reminds me of my first test drive of the C6 less than two years ago. Needles to say I was impressed, since I bought one in May '06. And I still get that same thrill when I drive mine.
