Default Possibly overheating

Hi Everyone,
This is my first post on here. You people are great...
I think I may have a problem. I've occasionaly in the last couple weeks smelled coolant in my garage. Yesterday the car (05 coupe) seemed a little warmer than normal. When at stop lights the temp would steadily rise. I saw 217 at one point. Then when I cruise down the road everythings ok. It drops back down in the 190's. The outside temp was around 70. The coolant tank appears full. Do I have a problem?
I bought the car back in October with 18K+ miles on it. It now has almost 20k.
Thanks for your time.

It's normal for the Vette to see 220ish. The fan should kick in and keep the temp around that until you start moving again.
As for the smell, I duuno!

i suspect the smell is from 'boil-over'.

chances are she let off a little pressure and some coolant boiled out the overflow hose.

if i was you i would try to 'burp' the system.

I don't like the higher temps either, but they are "normal" for these engines.

Your temp is normal but if the tank has been topped off it could be the overflow as Zig mentioned. Check it and see if it's full, if it is suction some out.

Temperatures are normal - smell is not. Try to find where it is coming from. Could be as simple as someone spilled some during filling or as complicated as a water pump going out. If you can smell it you need to see it.

Thanks for the replies. After I started smelling the coolant, I starting watching the coolant temp. It had gotten as high as 205 before, but that's it. Hopefully there's not a problem. Thanks for easing my mind.
