My 2008 C6 has a horribly loud squeak that sounds like it is coming from where the dash joins the driver's side windshield pillar cover. Every time I hit a bump it makes an incredibly loud noise like two pieces of styrofoam rubbing together. It's driving me nuts. Every little bump in the street causes it so it is constantly doing it.
However, when somebody is riding with me in the passenger seat, it goes away.
How can that be?
I know that sound can travel and be difficult to pin down where it is coming from but it seems to be so clearly coming from the left front of the dash that I can't see what the passenger seat could possibly have to do with it.
Your car is new take it in as it is covered by warranty. Sounds like something is missing a bushing or gasket as the weight of the passenger is causing the parts to separate thus no noise.
Thanks for the various tips. I will check them out. I am curious as to what the 05-08-59-003E and PIC4678 refer to. Are these some kind of dealer bulletins regarding squeaks?
I had a 1002 C5 and a 2005 C6 with zero squeaks or rattles. This '08 I have is only a few weeks old. No noises at all the first two weeks or so the then it came on with a vengeance.
Maybe your Vette is telling you something, like you should always have a passenger riding shotgun with you, and preferably a member of the opposite sex.
I was convinced the noise was coming from the dash. The time that the noise stopped when my gf was riding with me was just a coincidence as the noise comes and goes. The next time she rode with me, it was back. Today it was driving me nuts so I took the hatch off and sprayed silicone all over all contact areas and that got rid of it.
So even though I would have sworn the noise was in the dash, fortunately it was a much easier fix than what I thought it might be.
