Default GM Convertible Windscreen

Does anyone use a windscreen on there Convertible? Do you have to remove it to raise or lower the top?

Thanks,
KF

Here is a thread about the windscreen you might find useful. Yes, you need remove it prior to putting the top up according to posts. I have a coupe so mine is not first hand knowledge.

Yes, it must be removed each and every time the top is lowered, and put back when you raise the top up again if you want to use it.

Also, you (and everybody else) will have to look at that silly thing if you get it

Has anyone with a coupe tried to use the vert windscreen to see it it helps with the buffeting problem?

Well, let me sincerely apologize to you and everyone else that must look at my "silly" windscreen. But I like it, and it works. It takes about 60 seconds to install or remove it . Just isn't a big deal.

I agree with RICHHOFF, got it on my Silver, looks good and works just fine.

Sorry guys for those who do not like the appearance. Remember, my car, my taste, my buck.

Okay, so you have and use it - great.
What do you do with it when you go to raise the top?
Do you have to get out of the car to remove?
Where do you store it?

Thanks,
KF

You do have to get out of the car to install and remove. When not installed, it stays in it's storage bag in the trunk. It take's longer to put in and out of the storage bag than it does to install it on the car.

It does work well on highway speeds over 60mph. You got to get out of the car to install/remove but I dont mind as mine has a manual top (early 2005 when automatic tops where on constraint every other day!).

Default You'll Be Glad You Got It

I have the GM wind deflector and it works great. It's a tricky install, in my opinion best left to the dealer. A lot of people have done it themselves, but a lot of people have complained about the difficulty too. Even my dealer screwed it up and had to replace a piece of carpet that was incorrectly cut to accept the mounting bracket.

It has an electrical connection that makes the roof impossible to raise accidentally. You wouldn't think that would really be an issue, but I've tried to raise the top twice when the wind deflector was in place.

The competing item is the Vette Net, which doesn't have the kill switch. I'd have ruined one of those a couple of times over.

The deflector does a very good job of keeping the wind from swirling back into the car from the trunk lid and waterfall, and it lets you talk normally with your passenger when you're driving, and also hear your radio.

As for appearance, it's cool. It sort of looks like a window raised up behind your head, but really it is a tightly stretched mesh fabric with the word "corvette" silk screened across the center. You don't see that, but people behind you do.

Because this thing is only about an inch thick you can store it under the partition that snaps in place to allow the top to go down (at least on the power top). It rides pretty much out of sight.

I'd recommend this item. It does what you want--it keeps your hair from blowing around, which gets old fast when you're on a long trip with the roof down. It lets you make a trip like that without having to keep the roof up, which looks kind of dorky on a nice cool sunny day.

Another thing that looks dorky is riding along with a baseball hat on to keep your hair from blowing around. Even dorkier is stopping your car to run back and pick up your baseball hat that blew off.

If you and your wife and your dog are bald you don't need it.

Everything Cool Rod said is true. It works great at keeping you hair from blowing around too much. As a lady I really like that, cause with hair that's almost shoulder length it's hard to enjoy the top being down if you hair is whipping around into your mouth and eyes. Also hard to see to drive well too. Another thing it does is help keep the climate controlled to your liking. You know when it's a tad too cool for the top to be down, but you want it down cause it's nice and sunny and you run the heat a bit, or air if it's real hot. This thing helps to keep things really nice inside for you. Even the radio is easier to hear. Sandy

Windscreen works & if you're the least bit handy DIY'er, shouldn't be a problem to install. Just read the instructions carefully & like the man says...."measure twice & cut once"....the carpet, that is. Wife would p*ss & moan about driving with the top down....once in place she was happy. Doesn't cut the wind buffeting entirely (nothing is perfect), but probably by 50-60%. And as other FM's noted, it's a snap to install & remove once the initial bracket installation is done.
