Default Durability question

A friend of mine always give me crap because whenever I drive my c6 I am always on it. If the speed limit is 45 I like to accelerate quickly to 45. I love the feel of the power! I don't usually spin the tires though because I don't want to have to replace them too often. My question is: How bad is it on the car to always be accelerating that fast? This is not a daily driver for me. I usually only drive it on the weekends if the weather is nice. I drive a truck during the week and when I get in my vet I always want to feel the speed. 1 thing I always do though is I let the engine warm up to 170 before I get on it. So how bad is it to drive my vet that hard?

As long as you let the engine warm up no problem at all.

^^ yup. As long as proper fluid levels are maintained, and you're not beating on a cold engine, it's fine.

Cold starts are the most damaging to an engine by comparison.

The only thing you may run in to, is a need to replace valve springs sooner than you otherwise would if you are getting in to the higher rpm's frequently.

Default enjoy your car - its tough

i read many articles with statements from the vette/gm engineers about how the corvette drive trains are designed. these engineers know that some vette drivers are going to push their cars all the time, and others will put high miles on them, therefore, they design the vette to handle very spirited driving and still run 150,000+ miles. i have known guys who rode their sportbikes( i own a gsxr1000) and drove their vets like they stole them, everyday, and never had a drive train problem. i think one important point you make is to go easy till the motor is hot, and change fluids. dumping the clutch or brake torqueing autos will certainly cause trouble. everybody knows you can drive the wheels off a car or bike, and not really "abuse" it. the real sucessful racers are the ones that can run at the front, without using the car or bike up, if you know what i mean. i have my 08 a6 about 3 months now and find that unless i drive it "spiritedly" it is not as much fun as my 02 manual . i drive it hard, i just dont abuse it.

You'll break it if you keep doing that. Stop now! You should use the throttle only as needed, and very gently when you do. Rapid acceleration can be harmful to your health, and the health of the car.

What does your friend drive? That might be the real issue.

It's made to handle hard use... not abuse. Maintain it well and run it hard.. it will last a long time...

I'll make sure my car is warmed up, but I drive like what you describe frequently. The oil is changed at the recommended intervals because, if the traffic conditions are right, I'll rip through the gears to whatever the posted speed happens to be.

Not terribly mature I know, but man, gotta love the launch

I've had my C6 since April and 25,000 miles later, the thing is still rock solid, no issues what-so-ever, cheap to keep and completely reliable.

Just don`t drive it like you stole it. I don`t drive mine hard until the engine oil temp hits 160 degrees. And when it breaks....upgrade! Season`s Greetings to each and every one.
