I have a 07 vy coupe never did pay too much attention to the crossed flags. I came across the owners pin from my '66 and was cleaning it up and noticed that the flags were reversed, checkered flag on the right, red flag on the left. I was just wondering if anybody knows when this changed? Hope that everbody had a good holiday and thanks in advance....................jake
05 they changed They change with body styles or special editions....Anny, Commerative..etc. In 05 they moved the flags from the back deck to the face of the rear(Corvette first).

I think the answer to that was posted here several months ago, but I'm not sure what the answer was. I think it was 05 when the C6s came out, but I'm not sure. I tried to do a search for the old thread, but couldn't find it.
There has been many versions of these throughout Corvettes life span. Historically there has been a major change at the introduction of each new generation. There has been subtle differences from year to year occasionally.

It looks like it changed when they changed the flags for C4's. The C4 emblem really wasn't a flag. I noiced ths the other day but didn't think about looking until you brought it up. Thanks.
They changed the flag over from the right to the left somewhere in the C4 line inbetween the C4 pre-production and the C4 production cars. The pre-production cars had the flags on the right as well as the center caps.
Actually there was a 1983 Corvette. Several units were produced for testing and evaluation and all but one destroyed. It was never mass produced, nor publically released but not only is there one, it is on display at the National Corvette Museum.

No 1983 Corvettes were sold. Quality and production problems had delayed introduction of the new C4 generation so 1983 was passed over. 44 1983 cars were assembled. Some were used to sort out production details while others were assigned to engineering evaluation and crash testing. A few were part of a press introduction at Riverside Raceway in California, December 1982.
43 of the 44 1983 C4 Corvettes were destroyed. The one remaining car, number 23 (white), was retired to the National Corvette Museum in Bowling Green KY where it is now on display. It is still owned by GM.
I thought the same thing but then I found this: two 1983 corvettes? The official one was the last survivor when the initial 43 1983's were produced, which now lives in the National Corvette Museum. However, they didn't finish "building" it until 5 years later.
The other 1983 was won in a National Council of Corvette Clubs charity raffle and is now owned by Dick Goyner. It was raffled as the first 1984 (with the only "Serial Number 00001" from any generation of Corvette known to still exist). There were 70 test vehicles built first with VIN's 00002-0071, then the 71st car built was given the VIN 0001. Mr. Goyner still has this car's original Build Sheet dated December 16, 1982. So it has been confirmed that he actually has a 1983 assigned vin0001 for 1984!
