Has anyone noticed that the price of a loaded car has gone up substantially. I had a 2001 C5 loaded convertible with F55, Auto and the sticker on it was $53,000. Now the loaded convertibles sticker for almost $70,000. Almost a $17000 dollar increase in 7 years. Was the C5 that much more of a bargain, or is it inflation, or is GM raising the price to offset the almost $10,000 in incentives they offer now? What do you think?

Inflation since you are talking 7 years which is a long time for the automotive industry. Also a lot of Corvettes these days are not selling near sticker which closes the gap a little. Add in more technologies and 7 years of government regulations, union battles and everything else and the price seems about right. Besides the new 4LT feature is a $4k option alone.
As has already been pointed out, it's been 7 years since your 2001 corvette came out, not 6. If inflation averaged only 2.5% a year, that's 17.5% in 7 years. GM has also added a few new features that run up the price, such as XM radio, OnStar, 4LT option, Dual-tone seats, bigger engine & stronger drivetrain.
Guess I should point out that I paid $47,000 for that car new, from a sticker of $53,000. The incentives were about the same as they are now. I agree the C6 has alot more options and is a better car, but it seems to me the prices are rising pretty fast.
My first was a 99' Targa, Mag Red, listed for $55,000, paid $44,000 drive out, still have the car, love it and will not part with it. Have 07 AO vert, 4lt, 6sp. Listed for about $75,000, paid $63,000. I love both these cars, but you cannot compare them. 2 totally different vette's. Son has 07 Lemans Blue, 3lt, even a difference here. The upgrades in technology is a huge disparity between the 99 and 07. I am pleased with what the bang for the buck bought.
comparatively speaking, there are some C6 bargains to be had these days - I think the sticker prices have gone up slightly - BUT more importantly, for those that are able to wait for the "good deals", I believe a new C6 can be had for less as an example then I paid for my 1st year production vert model. If you are in the market for a C6 - IMO, your timing couldn't be better.
My loaded 08 cost more than my loaded 04. One of the reasons I uprgraded was that the 04 didn't even offer things like side airbags, heated seats, power convertible top, 430 HP, 6 speed auto transmission, HID headlamps, steerinig wheel controls, etc.....
My 2005 listed at $54K, the same car (equivalent equipment) in 2008 lists at $57K plus. Yeah, the prices keep going up. Of course some things have been upgraded in 3 years (LS2 vs LS3) but $3K worth?

did you do a conversion to make it a 4LT? sounds interesting.

Yea cars have all gone up no doubt. On the other hand check out what HEALTH CARE cost have gone up! Out of control is the only thing I can say. I'd say my health care insurance has far far outstripped inflation. It's completely crazy and no end in sight. At least I DON'T HAVE to buy a new car, but I sure can't be without health care insurance....
I paid sticker for my 2000 Coupe, out the door with an extended warranty, I believe that it was $51,xxx.
When I got my C6 Coupe last May, I got $5,000 off sticker, and paid $53,xxx. I didn't buy the extended warranty, but I did get 45 more HP, NAV, Heated Seats, and the other C6 upgrades. I thought it was pretty reasonable.
I gave up waiting on the '09 after this last price increase. The '08 vs a comparably equipped '07 is about $2,000 more. I want to get one now, before they jack it again in '09 for marginal improvements.

The coupes are more in line with past pricing. With the sticker prices you list it's only about a $7000 difference. I was just wondering about the huge price increase in the convertibles $17000. They are pricing them more around the price of a Z06. Don't mean to whine about price, just wondered what everyones opinions were about why.
