Default C6 Export Model

I live in the United States and I am going to order a C6 but can I order an export model? I would like to have the different taillights and headlight washers.

Thanks,

I bet you wouldn't think so when you see them operate. They call them headlight washers, they are actually more like headlight, hood, windshield and roof panel washers.

The second problem is if you have your headlights on and use your windshield washers they automatically come on, no choice.

I actually had headlight washers on my 1969 Camaro RS/SS that I never used because you would have to wash the car every time you did. Nice idea, but, really, how often are our cars dirty enough to need a headlight washer...

I just thought it would be cool to have the different taillights, headlights washers, and sidemarker lights. But do you think I could order my C6 with those special options, won't they meet US specs?

Because they're not offered as "options" on the US model.

You can probably order just about any/all of the parts that you want to change either OEM or aftermarket and make the switch after delivery - - -don't know ehther they're all permitted in the US . . .but assuming they are, you can do post-delivery.

That way, when you sell the car, you can return it to factory specs - - the factory just won't build it that way for you.

You cannot order those options on a US spec car from the factory. Actually no way for the dealer to request them. They only exist as part of the export equipment groups. There are no RPO codes for them. If you want them, order them from a parts supplier aftermarket.

The cars that come into the UK/Europe are made in the US and arrive exactly the same as the US cars. They are then converted to European spec; rear lights, headlight washers and side lights. All these parts can be bought here in Europe.

I imported my car from the US a couple of years ago then needed convert it to Euro spec (SVA test). This company did the conversion for me (www.importmyvehicle.com), so I presume they can supply the parts if you need them. But you’ll be paying in £’s and will have to ship them to the US, so it might be pricy for you. I’m not sure if you can find the parts in the US?

Not so John, I visited Bowling Green in 2006 and saw UK cars on the
production line already fitted with the European lights. In fact, the
guide even made a point to show our tour group without knowing
where I was from.

They normally then ship to Holland and are sent through PDI in Milton
Keynes but are ready for the road there and then.

The reality though is like you, mine and many others here will be a US
spec car imported independently to the UK thanks to the rate of
exchange that then has to have the lights converted and run the
SVA test.

Therefore, for the original poster, buy a US car and just have the
lights converted to UK spec.

Hope that helps.

Ah sorry things must have changed. When I bought mine in 2005, they where converting them when they arrived in the UK. Also before Vauxhall (UK division of GM) officially decided to stop selling the Corvette’s (C5) in the UK, my local dealer showed me how they did the conversions in house.
Any news on your C6 arriving in the UK yet?

No worries, ah the Vauxhall days, almost bought my first C5 from them back in 1999, left with
a Camaro after being talked out of it by my girlfriend. :o

Frustrating times now. It's been at the port in the UK for a week now.
Was due to be finally unpacked today, but "System" issues prevented it, so they will try again
tomorrow, but that is now leaving me a logistical nightmare for it to appear at the Autosport show.

It's all a bit like moving house really, all the frustration will no doubt melt away the moment
I drive away in it.

I'll keep you posted.

No of course she isn't................................... ..she's my wife!

Seriously, she is a total diamond.

She was only 19 then ( ) and not into fast cars, but now she is a complete petrol head
and loves the Corvette (even drives it...when I let her!)

Default What is the bulb inside headlight for?

I just got back from BG and we were looking closely at an export. There is a small flashlight looking bulb inside the head lamp assembly that is on when HL's are on. Did not get answer from guide what it's purpose is. Anyone know???

Hi

In the UK this is used as a side light and is a legal requirement, so we have:

FRONT
Side lights
Dipped beams
Main Beams

SIDE
Indicators

REAR
Red brake lights
Amber indicators
Red fog light

Hope that clears it up.
