I placed an order for a CRM convertible at a local Mooresville, NC dealer on 11/19. I still do not have a TPW (almost 7 weeks). Is this normal? The dealer hasn't been any help in getting information. I am getting anxious to drive my new Vet. Although this will be my third (I also had an '85 and a '98.), this is the first one that I ordered so I am new at this. I am taking Museum delivery. Based on comments in the Forum, I anticipate that this will be an experience my wife and I will never forget. I just discovered this forum and have already learned a lot from members.

Sounds like your dealer is stringing you along because they don't have allocation for a car. IMO, 7 weeks is too long to wait for a dealer to perform and order. My advice is cancel that order and go to one of the forum dealers. You will get a car right away, well almost. Good luck.

Dealers know approximately 4-5 weeks ahead of time how many allocations they have each week of the next 4-5 weeks. Sounds to me like he doesn't have an allocation yet.

I second that. I put my order in after thansgiving and the car get built next week. Not bad since the factory was closed from 12/24/07-1/2/08.

My neighbor and I ordered cars at the same time. We told the dealer that we wanted to pick them up at the Museum on the same day. He said that this would not be a problem. Based on your replies, I don't think he had allocations for two cars. My neighbor has had his TPW of 1/14 for over two weeks!

I'd say you are screwed as far as doing a simultaneous Museum pick up with your neighbor. That's too bad. If it were me, I'd pull the order from this dealer, officially, and go somewhere else.

You do know that there are Forum dealers that HAVE allocations, right? By the way, Lake Norman is wonderful.

Lake Norman is wonderful, but because of an extended drought the lake is about 3 feet below its normal level. We are all praying for rain/snow, except when we drive our cars back from the museum!

I am still hoping we can do it together. My neighbor is willing to wait on his, and Lori at the Museum is trying to make it happen. If I don't find out anything from my dealer on Monday, I will follow your advice and check with the forum dealers. I wish that I had known about them before I ordered my car.

Allocation is the name of the game. My car was ordered 9/18/07 and I picked it up 10/24/07 and I was delayed one week because of the strike.

I placed my order at my local Chevy dealer on December 3rd, and the car will be built on January 14th. I don't know why the difference, unless each dealer gets an allotment of so many slots from Chevrolet.

Sounds like your dealer has not been 100% up front with you. I would be sick and pull my order and give it to a forum dealer who has the allocations and will keep you fully informed. Donn

Frankly, you are exhibiting something that I wouldn't expect: loyalty to the dealer. I honestly don't know why unless you're related.

I mean, with all due respect, 11/19 is about 47 days ago. Do you realize, not only per the above posts, that most people who order their cars get an order number (first) and a TPW thereafter? And that the "thereafter" is usually less than a week?

Could you tell us why you're waiting until Monday, so that we can understand the logic/reasoning because I'm a little baffled.

The only reason I am waiting until Monday is that I think that my neighbor and I still have a chance to pick up our cars at the Museum at the same time. We have been looking forward to this for a long time. I will find out on Monday whether this can still happen. Believe me, I have no loyalty to the local dealer and would love to pull this sale from him. Am I correct in assuming that if I switch to a forum dealer a January TPW would not be possible?

My Brother-in-law and I ordered our twin CRMs on 11/20 and they will be built on Tuesday 1/8 and delivered together at the museum on 1/24, you may want to check on the allocation. I used a forum vendor. No hassle.

43 days from order to delivery from Rick Daniels! Here's how it played out for me...

In the process of ordering a 2008 I perused all the sites and read up on all the supporting dealers, checked their websites and searched the web for any service related posts. When I was ready to order I shot off an email to each supporting dealer and Rick Daniels was the first to reply with a price offer.

After receiving his price I went onto the Jeff Hardy Site and found 8 cars matching my requirements allready on dealer lots in the US. I then in turn offered each dealer the same price (transportation not included). Several Dealers responded and several did not. No one could match the price. One dealer in Atlanta offered me a new 2007 for the price.

So I ordered through Rick and I can say the process was a great experience. He answered all my questions. Gave me a firm price by email. Worked the courtesy delivery with the local dealer. And the process was quick, painless, and I would reccommend it to anyone.
His price included courtesy delivery (no charge) and minor doc fee. In addition at local dealer I had to pay a 250$ prep fee, Tax and title. No other hidden charges.

After receiving the price quote I went onto his site and filled out the custom order form providing a down payment of 1000$ with my credit card. A sales order was emailed to me the same day. I followed the build process by simply clicking on the "customer tracking button" on his site. The rest of the process went like this.

Day 1 - Ordered car (Oct 8)
Day 8 - Car received TPW of 11/12
Day 14 - went to 3000
Day 24 - went to 3300
Day 32 - went to 3400
Day 35 - car built - 3800 (11/14)
Day 38 - Received all papers to be completed for purchase and returned them Fedex overnight
Day 42 - vehicle arrived local dealer
Day 43 - Picked up vehicle - Nov 20th

As I was a cash customer no loan involved. Only required paperwork was sent to me, no bs paperwork like GMAC application. Local dealer did a great job prepping and delivered car to me with 3 miles on odo and full tank of gas! (even during Thanksgiving week). Thanks again Rick & Michelle!

Thanks for the input. I wish that I had discovered this Forum and advice like this before I purchased from a local dealer. If I don't have a TPW by Monday, I will cancel my order and check with the Forum dealers.

I placed my order with a small town local dealer. Gave dealer deposit on July 25, 2007. Did not receive TPW (10/01/07) until September 8th. Car delivered to dealer on October 10, 2007. I was not in a really big hurry but did get pretty po'd when I realized dealer did not have any allocations. I had to get the dealership owner and GM District Rep involved. Once I did finally receive the TPW, everything moved pretty fast. The dealership has treated me like gold and that is what I was after using a small town dealer and they will let only one person in the service department touch my car. And, this guy does know what he is doing with Corvettes.

Great news! The dealer just provided a TPW of 1/21 and an event code of 3300. This means that my neighbor and I will be able to pick our cars up at the museum at the same time. His TPW is 1/14 and he agreed to wait for mine.
Does anyone know when my car will have a VIN based on the TPW of 1/21? I am still hoping to have it by 1/31 so that I can take advantage of the GM card deal.

Norm that is good news, and a good neighbor, too. Someone will chime in on the Vin # and when it becomes available.

I'd call the Museum staff first thing, maybe even today. They may either have the vin or tell you when it'll be avaialble. Plus, now is a good time to tell them the TPW and schedule when you (and your neighbor) want to go do the Museum delivery.

You will need an order # which I'm sure you have.

Good luck.
