I have an 06 with the indash 6 CD changer. The changer will play discs that have had MP3 files burned to them on a computer. Hooking an MP3 player to the radio is a different story. There are a number of interfaces that work but none seem to work well. GM has promised a solution that will be ready (maybe!) in the second quarter of 08.

Only the 2008 cars have a jack for playing MP3's from an external player like an Ipod. There is a 1/8" phono jack on the face of the stereo head unit. The 2005-2007 cars do not have external MP3 capability.

In order to play MP3's in your car you need to create a CD with mp3 files burned on to it.

Oh alright, I thought the MP3 player option was like an audio input jack for plugging an ipod or something in. Thanks!

I thought it was something the 2005's might have had. Its odd that they don't. I owned a new 07 Mustang that had it, and I believe the 06's did too. Probably the 05's as well. Strange that Corvettes didn't have them

I've heard that if you have NAV you won't have the MP3 phono jack on the stereo on 2008's! Is that correct?

That is correct. GM has been planning to release an aftermarket accessory called the PAL (Personal Audio Link) to accomodate the use of the Ipod with the Nav radio but repeated design issues and delays really have owners frustrated and seeking other aftermarket solutions. As they will find however none of them are without their problems.

The latest information I have on the release of the PAL is second quarter of 2008. I'm very hopeful that it happens as it will be an excellent solution for us Ipod owners.

Me too. Here is the planned list of features:

The Personal Audio Link iPod adapter, about the size of a deck of cards and not visible to the customer once installed, uses existing radio software, and is integrated through the radio’s digital XM Satellite Radio band.

Personal Audio Link Key Features – At a Glance

Seamlessly connects an iPod to the vehicle’s factory installed audio system

Charges iPod when ignition is on

Choose from English, Spanish or French language for function displays

Search and display music by genre, playlist, album, artist

Use seek function to move forward or reverse within a song for up to 15seconds

Select “shuffle” function to mix music

Sort music using “alphabetical jump” from A-Z list

Sort and select Podcasts and audio books by title

Control volume from steering wheel controls

Personalize text display in dynamic mode (radio display scrolls through artist, album, title, song, time remaining, etc.) or static mode (fixed on one display element such as artist)

Perform fast music searches using high-speed text display technology

Will this option be available for non-nav radios as well?

As far as I understand it, no, it is designed to work only with the Nav. The touch screen of the nav will be the primary user interface.
