I am new to the world of Vettes and am having the time of my life with my new ride. Just one small problem though, nothing is far enough away anymore! I have been looking at add ons for my new 06 C6 convertible. I got it in Aug of 07 for a great deal (it was a dealer leftover). I went to Corvettes at Carlyle this past year and saw one car with chrome seat back hoops and fell in love with the look. I have now recovered enough from the money spent at the show to start looking for the hoops and find that most sellers are offering the same few vendors. Can anyone tell me if they have had problems with the bolt in install or should I stick to the adhesive style? I prefer to do the bolt in but will heed the advice of those who have gone before me. Also any advice on if I should consider the Trans. case supports, (I have been known to put my foot in it) would be greatly appreciated.
As you may have already discovered, Ecklers has bolt-ins, but they indicate that the removal of the fuel tanks in required to complete the installation - - -seems like a pretty hefty effort.
I guess the question is, would you rely on them as protection - - or just cosmetics? Ideally I suppose, the answer is both . . .but it sure doesn't seem easy to do - - -
I'll defer to those with verts that have actually done the deed . . .good luck!

I have looked into this extensively and will still possibly do it soon. The seat back hoops can not be used for protection what so ever, just a cosmetic add on.
As for bolt on or adhesive, i also want something "permanent" but found from West Coast Corvettes, that the bolt on installation does nothing other than put bolts through the car (obviously), other than a different mounting option it does cause them to be any better.
I have seen them on many cars and would like to hear from others also.
The hoops come with epoxy adhesive for installation without removing the tanks, Purely for looks only, but the hoops, even if bolted in, would offer zero protection in a roll over.
I guess that I can go with the stick on type given that I won't get any added protection either way, but my concern is the ugly plate that I have seen in the ads. Does anyone know if they instal through the carpet or is it a situation where you are expected to cut out a patch of carpet then glue the plates down. That is a non starter for me, but with a clean hole through the carpet we could be back at the start line.
I did the obvious thing and asked Ecklers. The answer to my question is you can do it either way but the instructions are for installing the mounting plate below the carpet.

I'll post photos when I do the deed.
Please do it soon I want to do this also but have been waiting to see it done also.
I installed a set of leather wrapped hoops on my 98 pace car, they bolted on. The instructions gave specific instructions on how deep to allow the drill bit to go. The tanks are in that proximity. It was no big deal really, maybe 2 hour install. Took more time slitting cutting the carpet to fit the hoop correctly than anything. They do look good IMO besides I installed the same kind as the real pace car had on it, well except theirs were functional but no different from the top
AmericanCarCraft.com made me this set. They are held on with 3m tape only. They will not come off unless you take them off. I took them off to have the paint work done. I used fishing line to remove. I hate to post pics. because of all the negative people here but here they are.......
