One of mine has a nail in it. It has probably been in if for sometime. I just happened to notice it today after removing the wheels. Tires have about 18k on them. Thanks for any help.
AS the above post states it depends on where the nail hole is situated on the tire. Anything on the outside to sidewall mean a new tire must be purchased. Anything in the center area can be plugged. I plugged my run flats and that was about 500 miles ago, no lost of air and a couple of high speed runs with no problems.
I've had one plugged. Go to a Goodyear authorized EMT repair shop. Mine turned out to be the Discount Tire just down the street from me. They have to break the tire off the rim to put in the patch/plug thingy.
At 18000 miles how close are you to needing a new set of tires anyway?
I expect this set to go 25k. I have some excessive wear on the inside of the right front that might cause an earlier change of tires. When I take it back out, I will have it aligned.
I thought that I accidentally posted this! I found a screw in my right rear runflat yesterday. Vette only has 700 miles on it. The screw is in the center of tread. I've plugged probably 6 tires myself over the past 15 years with the kit you buy at Wal Mart and never had a bit of problem. Any opinions on doing the same to this one would be appreciated.
I just think that I have as good of a chance at doing this myself as I do taking it somewhere and having them scratch a brand new rim, or break the sensor. Also, If plug doesn't work, then the computer will tell me if the tire is leaking air right???
Sorry to steal your thunder D's C6, but maybe this could help us both out.

You will get a MAJOR reduction in speed rating with a wrong plug job.
That will depend on how fast you drive/fly.
Your choice!!!!

The official way to repair it uses a plug/patch thing that they have to install from the inside of the tire. Some people have successfully used an old-style plug as well. All I can say is that I didn't have any scratched rim problems or pressure sensor problems from my Discount Tire shop. But there's always a gamble that you will have someone who isn't too careful doing your repair.

I put a plug (Walmart) in my rear tire about 5,000 miles ago and no problem. Never any air loss.

Read your owner's material. Theres a warranty brochure for your tire. EMTs on Vettes have a special warranty. I believe that during the first year of ownership the tire will be fixed free by authorized GY dealer. If it can't be fixed you will get a free tire!
Thanks. I will be calling Good Year in the morning and try to get it to them to get it fixed with a patch and plug. I got to thinking about it and I figured it would be ridiculous for a new vette with 700 miles on it, to go with a plug only. I'll sleep better knowing I'll have a plug/patch combo. Thanks also to Wcberry for the great illustration. I'll re-post tomorrow night to let everyone know the relsults.
