With the help of the forum FAQ I had no trouble (well maybe a little with the connectors) removing the console and gauge cluster from my '05 coupe. I will be having a custom paint job done and need to remove all of the accessories. The 12v power point accessed under the console lid is a bear. It looks like the metal cylinder has to be removed before the black trim with cap can be removed. The cylinder body seems to prevent the snaps on the trim piece from clearing the opening in the console. If this is correct, how do you remove the cylinder? Also, the trim pieces around the shifter and cupholder is heat staked in and also has 2 screws. I assume this stays in place and is just masked off for painting. Is that right? Any help would be greatly appreciated...
look inside the chrome barrel, you will see 2 black tabs, they must be pressed at the same time to allow the chrome barrel to be slid out.
I would 100% remove it, the trim is plastic weld in place, using a dremel with a carbide tip you grind out the welds untill the trim can be removed. To reinstall you a plastic cement or ca glue
