Has anyone had a problem with the starter switch? More than a few times lately I have pushed the button to start up my 2005 and nothing happened. The engine light comes on but that is it. Usually if I open and close the door once or twice everything is fine and it starts right up. It's as if there is a short in the push button, but it is so intermittent that I know as soon as I take to the dealer it will not do it for the mechanic and I will have wasted the trip. But I also know one of these times it's just not going to start, and then...
Interesting. Just tonight in the parking garage, I went to "light the fire" to drive home:. Clutch in, trans in neutral. The car turned on but the starter didn't engage. Thought I didn't have the clutch all the way in, so held it down to its max stroke and hit start again - no starter.
Turned it off, kept the clutch in, hit start - voila! Started right up. Very weird. Hopefully it was just a random glitch...
Try releasing the clutch pedal and pushing it again. I have to do this every once in a while. Apparently the clutch safety switch does not contact every time.

Any ideas?
I just had my starter switch replaced. My problem was with the actual "toggle." I didn't know that a "little play" is actually "normal." When I went to the dealership, they just replaced the toggle. When I examined the switch, I had approximatley the same amount of play. The service advisor didn't know so we compared it to a new model vette in the show room-guess what-same amount of play.
After having the new switch, I can actually (try this yourself), push the lower portion "very lightly" and the car will not turn off. It takes and an extra effort to push it far enough to turn the car off. This is not the same for turning it on-always turns on even with the slightest touch (MN6).
Hence, I'm not sure I needed a new switch/toggle in the first place.
When I posted my problem on the forum, I'm sure someone mentioned also checking my battery and placement of the FOB.
