Question about Gas Flaps!
I don't know what the deal is... After getting gas I try to close the gas flap door ... and it won't close! On the times that I do get it to close, it re-opens again if I go over a bump in the road (no matter how small). I can't tell you how many people pointed to my "flap" to tell me my gas cap door was open.... sounds like a personal problem... doesn't it?
Anyway, I called the dealership and it's $75.00 just to have the guy take a look at it to see if he can fix it.
Any thoughts of how I could fix it on my own would be greatly appreciated!!
Thanks!

go a little farther; find another dealer.
I'll go look at mine.
OK, just looked. When the door/flap is open, is the little prong on the right (next to the gas cap) completely free and extended? It is the part that is activated by the switch on your dash. It should be sticking out about 3/8". Make sure you can push it in and it springs back out easily.
If not, you could try first wiping it off and then spraying some lubricant (even WD-40) on it to loosen it, and lube it. See if that's it.

Check the door hinge it is probably pushed too far back which is not latching on to the lock mechanism. Unscrew the hinge area and push it forward or should I say to the rear.
$75.00 for a minor adjustment, call the cops they tried to ROB you.

Oh wow.. I've tried that already. Even used a little W-D 40 (haha) thinking the little pin (or door hinge) was stuck in there. It either operates on suction or something actually clicks in the door to latch it... I'm not sure. The W D-40 only lasts for a short while though.

as good as wd is it really isn't a lubricant. so if you can find some dry slide or other lubricant, I'd say use it instead.
so the door hinge is correctly positioned AND it moves freely, right? and the little piece inside moves freely, too, right? way to ck the last one is, someone push the button on the dash, and you watch it move. make sure it comes out to full extension, i.e., about 3/8 inch.
also, ck the door itself: is the built-in, non-adjustable latch completely there? not missing a piece or part of it?

Same with my '05, took it to the dealer and they said the manual release in the trunk/hatch area was partially pulled out. I went on my way, well the problem continued so the finally replaced the actuator and all has been fine.
Good luck!
Good luck!
There was another post about this about a week ago. One of the answers was that, apparently the spring that pushes the lock plunger out gets rusted and ultimately disintegrates in its housing. You may have to replace that spring. The poster with that answer said he used the chrome spring from a ballpoint pen, with a little tweaking, and it works great. You might want to search for that thread and review it. If I can find it in the next few minutes I will come back. Good luck.

Here's a thread similar to the one that you're citing:

Thanks everybody!!
I will try the wires in the trunk... and if that doesn't work... I'll either sweet talk my husband into doing it for me or may have to settle with taking it to a dealer... I'm not sure I trust myself by taking the side panel of my car off!! Yikes!
Thanks again!
