Default LAPD 3/8 inch Tunnel Plate installed today

Had LAPD's 3/8 inch tunnel plate installed on my 08 C6 today. Here are my impressions before and after the install. My car has the Z51 suspension package. Hopefully this may help some one in deciding to do this mod or not.

Stock: The car felt very tight and solid from the factory. No squeaks or rattles at all. I was actually very impressed as I expected some flex in the chassis due to the targa top. I noticed a little mostly when going over train tracks or going up my drive way at an angle. Heat in the console wasn't as bad as others have mentioned but it was there. Enough so that I wouldn't store any thing in the console.

LAPD Plate: Car feels tighter now, very solid feeling to it. No chassis flex at all when going over the same set of train tracks, ride is a lot firmer. For some this may be a bad thing as the Z51 package already delivers a firm ride (if you don't have the Z51 package you won't notice this as much or at all). It's not harsh but you definitely feel more of the road imperfections. The car also seems to react more quickly to steering inputs now than before. Can't explain that one, could just be my perception but it has a more connected feeling to me. Heat reduction was drastic. Huge difference in the amount of heat in the console. Now I wouldn't hesitate to put my cell phone in there but before I was afraid the heat would damage it. Overall I'm very pleased and the money spent was well worth it.

Thanks for the nice write up. This is something I have wanted to do for some time. I’ll have to do this mod next. Did you do the install yourself? If so how difficult was it?

No I had it installed. I don't have access to a lift which you need to do it. The install only took two hours and looked very easy to do.
