Default Front plate placement question

The wife got pulled over for no plate on my car the other day. Just a warning. I guess I'm going to have to install it.

I've got the original and seen the Top Flight. TF is nice but I'm wondering how many have trimmed the plate and installed it back on the grill, under the nose.

I know you aren't supposed to trim the plate by law (or at least I'm pretty sure that would be against the law) but I think its going to be hard to tell. Has any checked with the local PD to see what they say about this?

Love comments and pictures.

Thanks!

Topflight is the way to go. The grill opening is maybe 4 inches high. You would have to cut so much of the plate that the state name would be gone at the top and much of the numbers on the bottom. Also, with the plate right up against the grill, that would most likely cause an airflow issue. The Topflight mount is very easy to take off as there are only 2 thumb screws holding the plate mount.

Actually, I'm a LOT more likely to get a real ticket than she is....for obvious reasons!

Still would like to see a plate tucked under, if anyone has a picture

If you frame in the cut plate with a narrow frame of some sort it looks normal (3/4 of an inch of the top and bottom). Best look and no cash outlay. No problems with police either.

That's SWEEET, what type of frame are you using? I don't run a front plate and often thought if I needed to I would convert to something like euro plate

I used the plastic document frames that come with clear document covers sold in any office supply store. They come in all colors and cost 75 cents.

I have been driving cars without a front license plate for about 14 years now and have NEVER been pulled over for it. Even when I get a ticket for something else they never even my not having a front plate.

Of course, now that I say this....

I got busted a few days ago in my TA for no front plate. That is $140 fine and can't really argue that one. The various plate mounts for the Vette don't really appeal to me. I was looking at the NCM Mount and though about asking the DPS about the legality of it.

In Texas, the plate must be visible from the front of the vehicle, and nothing may obstruct any of the letters and numbers or more than 1/2 of the state name. The NCM bracket is not legal in Texas, as the splitter obstructs too much of the plate.

I'm curious about the new Texas law that says it "may" be a $10 fine for not having the front plate. (Up to the judge, I guess.) This was to go into effect Sept. 1, '07. What's up with the $140?
Here are a couple pics of the NCM front mount in use. I did get a warning last July on I-30 about 100 miles east of Dallas.
Usually it is only the DPS guys that concern themselves with this law, and I assume they do less now because of the minimal fines. Haven't really heard of anyone being hassled by local leos. You can't really see the plate too well, but at least it looks like I tried.

Are you sure you have your NCM front plate holder mounted correctly?
Your picture does not look anything like the image in the NCM site.

Yup. When you mount the NCM plate holder, you find that there is only one place/way for it to fit. I thought the picture in the advertising was misleading also! Perhaps "they" mounted theirs incorrectly!!
It is not the first nor the last time I have bought something that didn't look exactly like the picture in the magazine!!
Having said all that, I still like it! However, it doesn't show off my expensive personalized plate at all in the front!!

I hope you're not a drinking man, then. If you are and the cop pulls you over just because you have no plate and smells alcohol the stakes get much bigger... I won't give them any extra excuses...

I believe the current law says up to $200. The $10 "fix-it" fine was a long time ago... And yes it depends on how much revenue the jurisdiction you are caught in want to make.

I like it, but when you cut the plate down don't you loose the state name?

You have two choices - either mount the plate where it is supposed to go, i.e. - placement where the p.o.s. factory mount would put it, or not run with a front plate. All these other mounting locations are illegal. NCM's bracket is illegal, and the Z06 pictured on this post has an illegal mount as well. You will have to either detest the way your front plate looks or pay a fine every so often for the pleasure of not having to look at that abomination. You'd think GM could find a way to integrate a front plate onto the car, but no.....no can do. Thanks, GM!
