Default Battery terminal thread

Anybody know the battery terminal lock down bolt thread? I want to install a battery tender cable with eye connections. Can't be installed under stock nuts. Tappered stock nuts are designed to tighten terminal. Will add a second nut when I figure out what thread! '08 coupe

I just cut my ring terminals off and put "U" shaped ones on the Tender harness. Slipped those under the tapered nuts, tightened down, good to go!

Instead of the battery, you should connect the positive terminal to the post on the fuse block (just open the cover and it's right there) and the negative to chassis ground that is locate on the frame rail about 12" in front of the fuse block. This is a much easier install (takes about 2 minutes) and you don't have to worry about buying new battery terminals.

Great advice. I was getting ready to install the positive wire to my battery positive when I get my car in two weeks. This is the way I have done it in the past, but I like your method much better. It is amazing what you can learn on this forum. Thanks.

Default Overhead tender

A neat tender installation is possible with a Sears Craftsman Automatic Entension Cord reel. Cut the 115 volt plugs off the cord reel and mount the reel above the drivers side door on the garage ceiling.

Mount your tender on your garage wall and entend a pair of 12 volt wires to the cord reel. Add a "Fused" 12 volt lighter connector to the drop cord from the reel. Caution make sure the polarity is not reversed. The center pin in the plug should be positive. Check with a meter if your not sure. (Caution always use a fused lighter plug available most auto supply or Radio Shack.)

Arrange the drop length so that when you park you can reach out the drivers window and reach the plug, without getting out. Then simply plug it into your lighter socket. Leave window slightly open.

Mount the tender where it can easily be turned on or off if not in use.

An alternate to the reel if you don't mind the lighter plug hanging to the floor all the time is to just omit the reel and add a fixed length of wire with the lighter plug hanging just off the ground. There is just enough length to reach the lighter plug on the console through the window.

This is a lot less trouble than having to open the hood to make the connection.

Go to hardware store, stainless metric nut isle. The nut that a 10mm wrench fits is the one you need. Don't remember the exact metric thread size now but the above method worked for me as they only had one thread size that fit the wrench.

I believe what you need is M-6 nuts. Auto parts store should have them with integral lockwasher flange. Usually hanging in the plastic 8 pack box.
