I ordered my new 08 Vert on Dec. 29, 2007. My dealer informed me that an allocation was not a problem and that furthermore, they ended up the year with extra allocations. Today is 3 weeks to the day that I ordered my car and the status event code is 1102. (I can't find that event code on this forum) My salesman seems to think that the car wasn't "picked up" perhaps because of the color or options I chose... It was my understanding that if there was an allocation for a dealer on a Corvette and the order was placed, the car would be built. Is it possible that GM is holding off on building this "allocated" car because of its options or color? I've already got 3 weeks added to the typical 6 to 8 weeks on an ordered car...
No. The dealer does not have allocation. You are being lied to. There are no constraints going on, no reason for the order not to be accepted except that the dealer does not have an allocation. If it were me, I would go back and demand to see their allocation schedule and when they won't or can't produce it I would cancel and go someplace else, where they treat you like an intelligent and wanted customer. JMO. Good luck, I hope you get it worked out to your satisfaction in short order.

Buy from a forum dealer Kerbeck and Les Stanford have the largest allocations. You will get also a better price.

I have an allocation right now and you will be in event code 3000 by next week. Let me know if you want to place the order.

Actually, I did check with Kerbeck and they gave me a great price but my local dealer Kevin Whitaker Chevrolet/Cadillac in Greenville, SC beat Kerbeck by 500 bucks, so I ordered it from them. Obviously, they just wanted my order and used their allocations for other customers. I think what they've done is underhanded; there is also a 900 dollar price increase on Corvettes that I will have to pay if I cancel my order at Whitaker and renew it with another dealer. Maybe this is Whitaker's reasoning for holding off on my car...It certainly doesn't promote customer loyalty... If it wasn't for the 900 dollar increase, I'd be re-ordering with Kerbeck! Needless to say that with this experience, I'll never go back to Kevin Whitaker in GSP or recommend them to two of my friends who are currently interested in buying a new Vette.
From what I understand, until GM accepts the order the price increase may affect you. I believe you are safe at code 3000 (accepted by production control), which you are not.

Is it customary that the dealer refund your deposit if they have not been able to deliver as promised?
yes. the first vette i ordered and waited 4 weeks to find out the dealer did not have any allocation, i cancelled the order and got my deposit back, don't let them make you think you cant get the deposit back...
I just ordered from Fichtner on Monday 1/14. By 1/17 my event code was past 1102 and TPW is in February. I don't think your dealed has an allocation for you yet.

I agree...I emailed Kevin Whitaker Chevrolet and cancelled my 3 week old non-productive order. I have a NEW order with Tim Boone at Boardwalk Chevrolet! His allocation is immediate and I should have my car in 4-6 weeks. Boardwalk matched Whitaker's price and gave me incredibly more information in 10 minutes than I got from Whitaker in 3 painstaking weeks. I'm smiling again thanks to Boardwalk! If you hurry - they still have 2 allocations left! I guess now I have to call the Museum and change my order number for the Buyer's Tour that I've already paid for! No sense in wasting their time tracking a non productive order from Kevin Whitaker Chevrolet in Greenville, SC.

Thank you for your business. Just remember you have until Tuesday if you want to make any changes. You will be in event code 3000 by next week.

I hope anyone who wants to buy a new Corvette reads this thread.
Buying through the Forum dealers is absolutely the best way to go.
I wish that I had known about the Corvette Forum before I ordered my Corvette. My neighbor and I ordered two Corvettes from a local dealer stressing that we wanted to pick them up at the Museum on the same day. The dealer said this would not be a problem. I didn't know anything about "allocations" and since he had four Corvettes in his showroom, I thought he was a volume Corvette dealer. We were satisfied with the pricing, based on research we did on the Internet.
To make a long story short, we ordered on 11/19 and didn't find out our TPW until 1/5. It turns out his was built on 1/14. Mine will be built on 1/22. In the interim we recieved no input from the dealer. Thanks to Lori at the Museum we will both have delivery on 2/1.
When I see the speed and communications provided by Forum dealers I am envious. I will certainly use a Forum dealer next time.
Called my salesman at Kevin Whitaker today - needless to say he was not happy about the cancelation...but hey, this is week 4 and no more than 1101 on the event code?!? They wasted 3 weeks of my time while all along I was thinking my car was in the system (not just an order number) They ARE refunding my deposit "check is in the mail tomorrow" (so their accounting department tells me.) Some cars actualy have a TPW by the third week, let's hope my new order from Boardwalk is one of them!
Designer Imagines A Corvette That Looks More Like a Corvette Than the Corvette
