Default Paddle shift behavior...??

Hey all,

Easy question for those in the know.

When we put our '08 in drive and stop at a light does it start out in second or first under standard throttle?

If we drop it into sport before going to the light but don't hit the paddles will it start out in first under standard throttle?

OR is the only way to get into first gear to put it in sport and downshift to first with the paddle?

Thanks!
Andrew

It will downshift and start in 1st from a stop in D or S mode. Only after you use the paddles in S mode will the transmission stay in 2nd from a stop. You will have to actually use the paddle to downshift into 1st now. If you are in S mode and shift into D mode, this will "reset" everything until you use the paddles again in S mode. Confused yet?

1st in either D or S, unless you've been manually shifting using the paddles. Then the car will only downshift to 2d, you have to select 1st with the paddles.

Sorry I should have read your thread mo better.
In standard auto, starts in 2nd
In Sport shift w/o using paddles starts in 2nd
with paddles in first, starts in first. I'm 99 % sure of that

OMG! the infamous 1st or 2sd thread rears it's ugly head again---LOL. I believe you will find that it starts in 1st , either in D or S = unless you paddle to 2sd while stopped. chime in everyone ,if this was not shopdogs correct explanation.

In "D" mode, it will always start in 1st from a stop.

If you are in D and simply coming to a stop the car will downshift to first.

If you are in S and have not touched the paddles the car will downshift to first.

SPORT MODE (S): When in SPORT MODE (S), the
transmission will work as an automatic until you use the
Manual Paddle Shift Controls, which activates the
driver manual gear selection. See Manual Paddle Shift
later in this section. While in automatic SPORT
MODE (S), the transmission computer determines when
the vehicle is being driven in a competitive manner
and will select and hold the transmission in lower gears
and have more noticeable upshifts for sportier vehicle
performance.
2-28
If you are in S and have used the paddles at some point in the trip. When you stop, the car will downshift to second. It will only go to first if you paddle down to first under these circustances.

While the Manual Paddle Shift gear selection system is
active, the transmission will automatically downshift
through the gears as the vehicle slows. The
transmission will select second gear as the vehicle
stops. From a stop, the vehicle will start from and hold
second (2) gear unless the driver manually paddle
shifts into a different gear or selects DRIVE (D). The
driver can select first (1) gear for maximum acceleration
from a stop.

Drive: car will start in 1st.

Sport with no use of paddles: car will start in 1st.

Sport, and you've been using paddles, but you come to a stop- the car will automatically downshift to 2nd, and to get it to start in first, you will have to click it into first.

OK. I am really confused.

If I come to a stop in D and I move the selector to S and bump the paddle shifter, what is the transmission doing other than down shifting. It definitely makes a noise and you can feel a pull.

I think it starts in 2 and only downshifts to 1 if you press hard on the gas or go to S and downshift to 1.

one other option, if you get the tune from Chuck when you use the paddles the car will shift down to 1st at 8 mph instead of stopping at 2nd

Thank you CHUCKY

No, that's incorrect.
Try this.

1. Put the shifter in D and come to a complete stop.
2. Accelerate to 60 mph while watching the tach and counting how many times the rpms drop off. You may accelerate as slowly or as rapidly as you wish, but be advised that it makes the first shift early - at about 8 mph.

3. Repeat the above process, but this time with the shifter in S and don't use the paddles.

4. Repeat 3 above, but use the paddles before you stop. Then come to a complete stop.

5. Come back here and tell us you erred and that it's like others above have said.

I will try that but I also want someone that knows about the 08 auto (since we know it changed in 08) what the heck the transmission is doing when I stop, shift to S and paddle down?
