2008 model vert just what is the range that lets the car know that the fob is there and doors can be opened.i do my double click and get the honk and can stand 50 yards away and my doors can be opened.just was curious if perhaps i was in the market and some guy could rifle through my stuff just because im in the "area"
Your fob has a distance of up to 100' or 30m. You still have to press the unlock button on your fob to open the door. Just being near your car with the fob will not in itself open your doors.
thats what i thought but i can lock my car leave my keys in the house and go into the garage and open my car(it wont start or even get the radio but the doors open what do i check/change to fix this?

Are you locking the door with the fob or is it locking via the autolocking procedure with the DIC? I guess I'm really asking if you're sure they locked at all.

If you activate the lock using the fob the range is approximately 30M. The range for recognition (the buttons on the fob not pressed) is about 18 - 24 inches from what I have read.
Wow, I had forgotten how much range the FOB has. I travel quite a bit and am currently on the road. I left the FOB in my motel room and went out to see if I could open the doors. Yep, they opened. The trunk did not. Then I used the FOB to lock the doors and tried it again. Doors would not open. I have to make sure I use the FOB to lock the doors once I am in my room for the night.

Check to be sure that you have the car programmed to passively lock as you walk away. If you do, the car should lock 8 seconds after you close the door and exceed the antenna range (I think this range is 18-24 inches). My horn is programmed to chrip and the lights flash when it locks. Does it every time

It sounds like you didn't have it programmed to automatically lock your doors, so in affect, your doors were never actually locked. Locking with the fob or setting your doors to lock automatically does the same thing.
I've set mine to passively lock, but I've also tested this a few times by leaving my fob more than a few feet away from the car and trying to open the doors. I wonder how many people unintentionally are leaving their C6s unlocked.

Same here - but I opted to turn-off the chrip/light flash feature. Does it every time. You'll notice a little red "lock-icon" light on your dash flash on/off as it going into the passive lock mode.
I lock mine with the remote, and usually press the lock button twice so that the horn beeps. I do not allow automatic passive locking, never have.
I've also confirmed that if the fob is more than 3 feet away from the car but still within operating range, pressing the pad on the door will NOT unlock it.

Maybe on your's, certainly not on mine. If my fob is anywhere within 10' of my car, it's unlocked without pressing anything except the door handle.
i am thinking there are many owners feeling secure but are unaware that the doors are unlocked i will test mine till i am satisfied im secure, thanx to all and try and get some sleep thinking your locked
IMHO, people are getting different results because their passive lock/unlock preferences are set up differently through the DIC. It depends on how you (or your dealer) set it up and the manual explains it. The FOB range when a button is pushed is much further (100' or so) than the passive unlock range (1'-2'). On my car having the FOB in my pocket 100' away or in the house will NOT unlock the car. The FOB button range and passive range are two different animals.

You might want to do a search because this has been discussed many times before. I have mine set for passive locking with a horn beep. If I want a silent lock I press the button inside the door before exiting. Otherwise it locks automatically as I walk away. Since I always keep the FOB in my pocket I never have to worry about unlocking it. I just walk up and open the door.
I have tested the FOB range and found it to be less than 4 feet when approaching the car to just open the door. On the other hand, recently I was at least 150 feet away when a friend wanted in and the button worked to pop the hatch.
I have found one failure in the security software. If I exit the car without pushing the lock button inside and briskly walk around the back of the car to the passenger side, the automatic locking never occurs. I don't open the passenger door, just stand near it when the auto lock timer times out and checks for the FOB still inside before locking. This does not seem to be an issue if I walk around the front of the car. Other than this the autolocking always works and, without pressing a button on the FOB, I have to be within reach of the latch for the doors to unlock again.
