Default FOB Programming Procedure(s) - Not Working

I recently purchased 2 ea. used # 1 and # 2 FOB's off of Ebay and neither procedures I have tried for the Forum Searches or owners manual have worked. I tried the basic procedure after striking out on the long procedure:

I started the car
Placed the car in Reverse
Turned the car off
Kept both FOB's on my person
Unlocked the rear with the key
Turned the key 5 times in 5 sec. numerous tries
The DIC still blank

I gave up on the long procedure and would be happy programming my FOB from Ebay as a FOB # 3.

History - My wife lost FOB # 1. FOB # 2 still works fine. I purchased 2 used FOB's off of Ebay hoping to program a new/used # 1 and the used # 2 as FOB # 3.

Is it possible that the 2 FOB's off of Ebay were previously programmed and will not allow me to perform the procedure in the manual? I assume my only option now is to take these FOB's to the delearship and have them do the programming. How much can I expect to pay or are there other options? I just want a second FOB to start my car in case I lose my only working FOB. Antone else have this issue?

Try this procedure, first start car the shut off then follow procedure.

This procedure erases all know transmitters and allows you to reprogram up to 4 transmitters.

Two questions:

1. Are you putting the unrecognized transmitter in the pocket prior to putting the car in the learn mode.

2. After step 15 are you leaving the transmitter in place until you get the second beep and the ready for fob 2 message.

From the 2005 owner manual:

United States owners are permitted to match
a new transmitter to their vehicle when a recognized
transmitter is not available. The procedure will require
three ten minutes cycles to complete the matching
process. Do the following:

1. The vehicle must be off.

2. Place the new, unrecognized transmitter in the
glove box transmitter pocket with the buttons
facing towards the passenger’s side.

3. Go to the rear of the vehicle and insert the vehicle
key into the key cylinder located above the license
plate. See Hatch/Trunk on page 2-14 for more
information on the key cylinder.

4. Open the trunk.

5. Turn the key five times within five seconds.

6. The DIC message will display OFF-ACCESORY
TO LEARN

7. Press the ACC button (ignition switch).

8. The DIC will read WAIT 10 MINUTES and will
count down to zero, one minute at a time.

9. The DIC will display OFF-ACCESSORY TO
LEARN again.

10. Press the ACC button (ignition switch).

11. The DIC will read WAIT 10 MINUTES and will
count down to zero, one minute at a time.

12. The DIC will display OFF-ACCESSORY TO
LEARN again.

13. Press the ACC button (ignition switch).

14. The DIC will read WAIT 10 MINUTES and will
count down to zero, one minute at a time.

15. A beep will sound and the DIC will read READY
FOR FOB #1. At this time, all previously known
transmitters have been erased.

16. Once the transmitter is recognized and
programmed, a beep will sound and the DIC will
display READY FOR FOB #2.

If you have additional transmitters to program, take
transmitter 1 out of the transmitter pocket and place
transmitter 2 in the pocket. This can be done repeatedly
until up to four transmitters have be programmed.
The DIC will then display MAX # FOBS LEARNED and
will exit the programming mode.
When you are done programming transmitters, press
the ACC button (ignition switch).

haven't had the issue but you should try the procedure to clear FOB's just to be sure. you can get instructions from OM or mygmlink.com for online version.

1. For the short procedure - No, the manual says to have the two keys on your person when you have a known working FOB.

2. When I tried the long procedure, I am putting the unrocognized transmitter in the glove box with buttons facing passengers side door prior to trying to get the car in learn mode. During both long and short procedures, the DIC never says anything after turning the key 5 times.

Since these are used FOB's I assume, can that be the problem?

Looks like you have a user name to get on there.

I received programming instructions with the FOB, however, you need a Scan Tool to follow any of the 3 methods provided.

You cannot use the short procedure (have one working fob) when programming a fob as fob #1. You must run the long procedure that wipes out all known fobs. Then after programming the new fob #1, you can program the new fob #2, by repeating the indicated steps for the long procedure.

Default The FOB Programming Procedure That Worked

Here's the thread I finially used for the procedure that worked:

A. Start your car.
B. With your car still running, take all of your working fobs and place them out of range from your car – preferably in the next county!
C. Shut engine off. (Note: If it is a manual transmission, put it in reverse before shutting off.)
D. Place the new, unprogrammed 2008 fob in the glove box transmitter pocket with the buttons facing towards the passenger’s side.
E. Go to the rear of the car and open the trunk with your car key.
F. With your trunk still open, and key still in the key cylinder, turn the key five times within five seconds.
G. The DIC message will display “OFF-ACCESSORY TO LEARN”. (Note: At this step or at any of the following steps, the DIC may display “NO FOBS DETECTED” – this is not uncommon and the process will still continue. Also, do not leave your car unattended during the entire 30+ minute procedure - - your car will time out and only General Goodwrench will be able to program your new fob!!)
H. Press the ACC button (ignition switch).
I. The DIC will read “WAIT 10 MINUTES” and will count down to zero, one minute at a time.
J. The DIC will then again display “OFF-ACCESSORY TO LEARN”.
K. Press the ACC button (ignition switch).
L. The DIC will read “WAIT 10 MINUTES” and will count down to zero, one minute at a time.
M. The DIC will once again display “OFF-ACCESSORY TO LEARN”.
N. Press the ACC button (ignition switch).
O. The DIC will read “WAIT 10 MINUTES” and will count down to zero, one minute at a time.
P. A beep will sound and the DIC will read “READY FOR FOB #1” (which is already in your glove box transmitter pocket). At this point, all previously working transmitters have been erased. The FOB in the pocket will automatically be programmed at this point i.e you will not have to press any buttons to start the programming process.
Q. Once your new 2008 fob is programmed, a beep will sound and the DIC will display “READY FOR FOB #2”. (Note: At this time you will want to quickly retrieve your originals fobs, which you placed far away from your car.)
R. Remove your programmed 2008 fob from the transmitter pocket and place your original No. 2 fob in the pocket.
S. When your No. 2 fob is programmed, a beep will sound and the DIC will display “READY FOR FOB # 3”. (Note: If you want to use your original No. 1 fob as a spare, you can now remove your programmed No. 2 fob from the transmitter pocket and place your original No. 1 fob in the pocket. This spare fob will be completely functional but will not have any personalizations associated with it.)
T. When the current fob is programmed, the DIC will now display “READY FOR FOB #4”. Although it is unlikely that you will have yet another fob to be used as a spare, remove the current fob from the transmitter pocket and insert your final fob in the pocket. (Note: This 4th fob, if you should have one, will also be completely functional but will not have any personalizations associated with it.)
U. When all of your fobs have been programmed, press the ACC button (ignition switch) to exit the program.

I left the car in neutral when I left the car started since I have a manual transmission. I should have placed it in reverse and then turn the car off. I tried a second time placing the car in reverse and then turning the car off. My only input I can give is to keep trying and follow this procedure as written. It finially worked for me. As the instructions say, start your car and then run all working FOB's in the house. Then procede down the instructions as written.

Thanks for the input. The folks on this forum are a great help!

Glad you finally got it (them) programmed.

I see steps L through N seem to be a repeat of I through K. Is this correct? Reason I'm asking is that I intend to make that post a favorite for others who may be having a problem programming fobs and I want to be sure it's right.

It's correct. You actually have to repeate this 3 times. So plan to sit around for 30 min. watching the DIC count down in 3 10 min. increments. The programming of the FOB' s takes seconds after the 30 min. of count downs. You can actually do this procedure in 35 minutes.

Hi chaps,
what a great forum. Went to my German dealer today for programming a new fob ´cause fob#1 was lost when the Vette was shipped to Germany recently. The dealer tried it for more than 2 hours but it didn´t work. So logged in here and found this thread, decided to try it how described and wow, it all went fine, exactly as described.
Thanks a lot
Manfred
